The Archaeology Thread

"occasionally given a good churn by a plough or rabbits."

Is this the killer rabbit of Caerbannog or the black rabbit of Inile to do that much damage? :D

As someone ho's dug up more than their fair share of battered and cracked artefacts (but no gold!), I wonder why the FLO thinks that they were being taken to be weighed in? I would have assumed that apart from the expected wear an tear from daily use, some of the damage would be the result of being buried in the ground and occasionally given a good churn by a plough or rabbits.
Ah, the wonderfully descriptive bioturbation, posted just so I could use the word. :p

We had an interested newbie on site (among many) was asking why we had a piece of bailer band & a piece of tail light in the trench, I explained bioturbaton to her.
She's a professional proof reader & editor & very intelligent (she'd come to Hull from inside the M25).

The site has been ploughed once in WWII since the Civil Wars.

I like solifluction personally to try to explain, it's as easy to explain as Hill Wash.
