Poland's defence minister has condemned a gas pipeline project which will link Russia and Germany via the Baltic Sea but bypass Poland.

Speaking at an international conference in Brussels, Mr Sikorski said... "That was the Locarno tradition, that was the Molotov-Ribbentrop tradition,"
...
And he explained why Poland was worried. "The Russian ambassador to Belarus said last week when the Baltic pipeline is built, Gazprom will be able to cut off Belarus without cutting off Germany. That means Poland too."
But in this case Poland could buy natural gas in Norway.

The European Union urged the United States on Saturday to join it in pressing for open energy markets and more democracy in Russia when the world's leading industrial powers meet in St Petersburg in July.

European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso told a transatlantic conference that the 25-nation EU and Washington should press Moscow to create free market conditions and legal certainty to guarantee predictable energy supplies.
Mr.Barroso could also propose USA to join it in pressing for open energy markets and more democracy in Bolivia. Though unlikely it would work in both countries.
