Nope, standard chain guns but big.

ROF and range is the argument. CTA is the competition that they'd like to kill off.

I think you may be thinking of the Mk44 Enhanced Chain gun system that did use a round ("super forty") that was configured in that way.

40mm is basically the Bofors 40x365mm round, the 50mm is a 50x319mm

Nice, but the difference in size of a 30mm shell to a 40mm Bofors shell is substantial. And given the typical size of a battlefield drone (I assume that is what they are referring to rathan a Predator type deal), how much target acquisition tech can you pack into a 40mm shell? And is this not the 'upgrade until we have a tank' philosophy?
