admittedly it was petrol powered generators with electric drive and wasn't very reliable.

He was way ahead, even with the MAUS drive system. Shame it would randomly burst into flames for no reason.

It's a retarded idea. The technical issues are not even close to being addressed at the tank scale . We can't afford to run and improve the tanks we have . The money that will be flushed on this tech dead end would be better off spent on drones and air defence.

Hydrogen fuel cell will be the way to go, MBT are large enough in their hull to only require refuelling with water. The hydrogen generator, its tank and power train would easily fit. And the tanks for the water, well wouldn’t need to be in special tanks. Could be stored in the hull bottom and even used as part of the armour.
