Telepest calls to my mobile

#1
Keep getting calls from this number, 02070985550. Having googled it, it seems it's a company group called Claims Group Direct Ltd and are calling at least twice every day including weekends! I never answer as I have nothing to do with them.

As my phone is on the UK mobile network, is there anything I can do to to stop these calls?

Just answer it and speak in very bad english. They will soon get bored and stop calling

Register your number on the Telephone Preferencial Service website here:

TPS

It will take a few weeks to kick in but you should notice a drop in the number of telepest calls.

The best way to deal with the telepest is to tell them you are not interested and that you are instructing them to remove your details from their database. As it is private data about you, you have the right to have them remove it from their systems. Be very careful though. Whenever you sign up for anything or fill in any form that contains your personal details, you must tick the box stating that you do not want your details to be passed onto third parties or be used for marketing, otherwise they take this as consent by ommision.

Hope that this helps.

I get a couple of calls a week from Galaxy Finance (yes its an Indian call centre). They drive me nuts.

If you read the comments in the link I put in my first post, it seems that:

a) They hang up when a call is answered.
b) They don't answer when called back.
c) Some have stated that even when registered with TPS it has no effect!

I asked my service provider (Vodafone) if they couldblock the number, but apparently they can't. :x

Edited to add: I've just registered my UK mobile with TPS, so thanks foranything that can help!

i never answer, and if i do because i think it could be a genuine call it goes along these lines:

TP:"Hello Mr S******, we are a...."

Me:"not interested bye"

had an interesting one a few years ago, hardcore flirting with me all the way she was. didn't work for her in the end though. ;)

Register with the telephone preference service you can do it online. It is then illegal to call you, tell them this they'll fcuk off.
It seems that it's only illegal for UK based call centres to phone you. The Telephone Preference Service is only of partial value.

Take the call and do this.

Oooo thats sounds very interesting tell me more ... oh hang on a second just need to get ( the kids out of the garden, ferret out of the rabbit hutch or any such exscuse) and put the phone down, leave it for five minutes and see if they are still hanging on, it'll cost a fair old whack .

If you read my earlier post, I mentioned that they just hang up immediately. Also trying to keep them hanging on is not an option, as my UK mobile is on roaming charges and so would cost me an arm and a leg!

Thanks for the suggestions though. :D

They are Claims Advisory Group Ltd. On their web site they are registered with the Ministry Of Justice. You can write to the MOJ and advise that you have been cold called by them and that you have never had prior communications with them. They have no right whatsoever to cold call you in accordance with the MOJ guidelines.

Interestingly, they shortened their name to CAG.

Just had "Pervaz" (sp?) on the phone wanting to ask me a couple of questions.

I asked him where he was based and on the third time he admitted to being in South Asia. He then started to ask for my post code so I asked him if he was watching the Indian League cricket (ITV4 at the moment).

He said he wasn't and I replied that he should get the call centre manager to get a TV in and get the cricket on. He then tried to ask if I was the owner of the phone (?) but I just asked him if the weather was as warm as it looked on the television as they were having a drinks break. I then asked him if he thought the Deccan Chargers had a chance against the Chennai Super kings.

Funnily enough he hung up. Pity, because I was beginning to enjoy our little chat.

when i used to get them (all them foreign types) calling me i try to sell them a yellow 1999 mini for £550 really good offer but they never seem to want to buy it. my record for keeping them talking is 45 minutes before there manager came on the line and wanted to know why i was selling him stuff he did not want (the irony did not sink in with him) but after a about two weeks of this behaviour they all stopped calling me. result

Like that one Happy Chap, might try that myself.

I have had alot of fun with telemarketers - they are invading my privacy so they are fair game as far as I am concerned, especially if they are from India. If they are from the UK, I take the attitude that they are only doing their job, which has not been outsourced by their parent company, so I go slightly easier on them.

The best trick for those from the sub-continent is to use sex. They really don't know how to handle such topics and will quickly hang up. The best one that I came up with was "could you be quick as the wife has finally agreed to take it up the arrse and I want to get on with it". This generally caused a ring tone on my phone, along with variations on that theme.

For those in the UK, I try more interesting ones. Like asking them if they have seen any interesting films recently, are they blonde or brunette (if female). They are guarenteed to answer with their hair colour and ask why - I always say I prefer the other hair colour and that its a shame, they sounded really cute. Totally throws them.
Another one who was selling insurance I kept on the line by asking about their credit rating, company listing, are they listed with Lloyds and if not who was their Guarentor (excuse spelling). After about 20 minutes of this the poor girl was nearly in tears "I've been working here for 2 years and no-body has ever asked me this sort of thing".

If they decide to ring me up whilst there is a good TV programme on then I will try to ensure that the fun I get out of it will more than compensate me for missing the telly.
