Tap Forward

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have been unreliably informed that the tap forward is no longer carried out with the back of the hand ala Brue Lee karate chop type of thing but with the thumb of the left hand.

    Can anyone confirm this?

I can find no mention of it it the 2009 Pam5. It seems to me that it may cause a 'stayed' thumb if indeed there is an obstruction to prevent the bolt locking home.

  2. Just back from IBS Brecon. No change to the tap forward or the way its done is being taught.

  3. You mean "forwards assist"?

I thought it wasn't required on the A2?

  4. Still part of the drills though...

  5. Fair enough.

  6. How very true!

I didn't think it had changed, like I said an unreliable source.

  7. Apparently "forward assist" doesn't appear in the manuals any more, its "tap forward on the cocking handle".
