  1. Hi there,

Been looking at some of the TA units in my area and have been to visit REME on a drill night. Very impressed to br honest. Nice group of lads, entuisiastic, good attitude and alot of other stuff going on too. plus would like to learn a skill.
Well organised for recruiting and answered all my questions fully.

I had always thought about joining the local infantry TA battalion 'cos i like the outdoors, walking, hiking and keeping fit.

What I would like to know is will joining REME turn into just a mechanics night class (Its is a vehicle recovery unit) or is there still a decent bit of soldiering after phase one ? or would I be better of in infantry?

  2. Recce Mechs do very little by way of "Mechanics"

Perhaps you should read up on what the different REME trades do.
  3. There is also the oppurtunity to train as a VM.
  4. That opens up the bigger question of; what do you do on a drill night? Given there is only 2-3 hours to fill with constructive effort, do the 'trade based' units tend to fill it with trade training, or is it drill/phys etc?
  5. What does an infantry TA unit generally do on a Drill night?
