TA Career substitution

although the challenge is getting less and less so I am looking at what my TA career path would be if I stayed in.

I suspect this may be the answer Land Information And Communications Specialist Group (Volunteers) (see unit at the bottom.

Commissing: couple of weekends at York with the medics, followed by a 2 week PQO commissioning course at Sandhurst (as a Capt). A lot easier than the route I know you were following

Unfortunately I am very much a 'manager' these days and don't have the technical skills that would appear to be required :(

Civvy : Design Engineer
TA : Armourer

Stuck behind a desk all week would be unbearable without the TA at weekends. The general engineering principles probably transfer between the two jobs but thats about it.

Civvie: Multi skilled (jobber)
TA: Combat Engineer

I noticed that most of the posts above are from people who work mostly in an office environment. I personally am finding being a sapper extremely tedious. e.g. on drill nights messing about with power tools and hand tools when i've spent all day doing the same!

Maybe I should look for a office type job within the TA :)

The AGC would welcome you with open arms :D

Maybe the recruiting teams need to notice this fact and stop trying to recruit students and the un-employed. Aim for all the bored office workers that want to get mucky at the weekend.

We'll if TA_Sig gets his way, we may get a sneak preview. I'm sort of at a crossroads myself, gawd knows who can advise me best. DE Officers tend to not know much about technical stuff or trades, LE's seem to only understand their world, the only person I think I can ask is my Bde Comd 8O (he knows a bit about my civvie job and me - he was our CO at one point).

Day Job: MOD SO2 Desk Officer
TA Job: JNCO

Obviously, I have no life away from the military...

Guess which one is the more challenging job, requiring good use of time/resources/lateral thinking/judgement in a fast moving high-profile environment...

(and guess which one is the TA...)

Hmm, I see a pattern forming.

Maybe its a sign of the times

Civvy: Operations & Warehouse manager

TA: Private and a PO.

Although my civvy work is ok, i much prefer being out at the weekends in green. I find it more rewarding and enjoyable than civvy work.

Snap. Do I win a prize?

Have people noticed the blatant over egging of their job titles? Lets take the friendly MOD MSR:

"Project Officer Specialist". Does this infact mean you're the bloke who does the filing and makes the brews (config librarian type thing)?

Civ: accountant
Mil: tpr in the RAC

I agree absolutely. I only joined to do something outdoorsy and more practical than sitting behind spreadsheets all day.

And yet I find myself getting far more out of my TA time than my work time. While the order Family Work TA still applies there are times when 'Work' and 'TA' are ever so close to swapping.

My Zero Alpha Domestic keeps on suggesting I should try and find something needing an accountancy qualification in the regs. Not sure there's much need for that in the RAC!

Yes all of that, and I trouser more per day than than the CO does. ;)

Day job: Yeah, like a really important, high profile, deal doing sort of guy, at a top City firm, with the CEOs of major International industrials as personal clients (and friends), plus MD of my own PR company, specialing in maintaining the public face of significant global businessmen such as myself, as well as non-exec of a number of number of private finance houses, ensuring my considerable commercial skills are used to their full in pursuing numerous opportunities, plus chair of start-up men's fashion company dealing in the top end of UK tailoring for the discerning, status-conscious (and wealthy) individual rather than the mediocre masses. Excluding share options and pension schemes, take home is £lots K. TAXI!

TA job: Gunner officer.
