Syria

A potentially very significant development on the ISIS front. Spokesman Abu Hassan al Muhajir sets out a change of focus - away from the West towards tagetting what it regards as Muslim apostates inc. KSA. Details in the tweet chain.

And:

Ignoring the pro-Govt style, the sheer amount, and origin, of the surrendered gear is interesting:

There is no need to apologise for an informative video.

I have found a news article from the Syrian news agency SANA on this which has some good photos and a partial list of captured kit.
More weapons handed over by terrorists in eastern Qalamoun – Syrian Arab News Agency
The list includes:
  • American-made TOW missiles and
  • guided rocket shells, some of them manufactured in Canada.
  • MANPADS,
  • tens of RPG rounds,
  • an electric machinegun and
  • STEYR sniper
Ammunition includes:
  • T-tanks shells,
  • Katyusha,
  • RPG and
  • artillery.

Here's all the photos. Spotters are welcome to see who can identify the most kit and the most obscure kit.

Considering their location not close to the Jordanian or Turkish borders, it is quite interesting just how much western kit they seem to have anyway.

Is this above or below the normal figures for winter deaths. Are the related to winter ie fog, ice, road weather conditions or people dying on the streets. Context is the thing.
Significantly higher and it’s based on those suffering from illnesses that have a link to cold weather, lack of adequate heating etc, particularly respiratory tract/ chest infections, pneumonia etc, the figure is normally 35-40000, but this year has been high even by that standard. The U.K. is significantly worse than other Northern European countries with respect to this.

Still doesn’t make anything else he says correct though!

According to the ONS, it’s about 34,000 normally for England & Wales, so 40,000 just reflects the combination of a more vigorous than normal flu season and a slightly colder than normal winter.
It’s more like 45000 this year, it is significantly higher but the reasons won’t be clear for a wee while yet. Nothing sinister though.

That's an interesting article. Thank you.
At 2.01 in the video there's a TOW part with what seems like a US Army inspection sticker dated from 2014. Of the kit shown, it was probably TOW that caused the most harm to the SAA.
As you say, it would be very interesting if anyone can shed light on other kit. The comms kit looks decent, to my uniformed eye.

I saw the post on Twitter and thought I would be first with the news. Of course nothing is free. It just moves the goal posts a bit and it will be interesting to see what happens next.
Is there not a 5th story window that you could be introduced with? In an entirely non-suspicious way when Useful Idiots have served their purpose.

You don't even know which account you're using.

This is a serious thread for those who've got solid and interesting information to share. Your cartoon agitprop has no place on it.

You mean how a proper hit would happen?
Stop thinking out loud you won't like where your logical conclusions should take you..

How could there be another non-belieber on arsch?
Arsch was so much better in the olde days..........

Please share what 'solid and interesting information' that you actually have and know.
How
could there be any dissenters to the official-line?

More from the S-300 speculation theme. Some posters on Reddit make this 2x An-124's and 2x An-22's in a week, with up to 500 tons capacity. Nowt routine, goes the chat, as that comes in via sea.
On the flip side, it could be anything.

OPCW eventually allowed on site. However, they can only say ‘what’ (if any) ‘where’ and ‘when’. Somebody needs to do ‘who’. What happened to that mechanism?

Indonesia investigates reports top Islamic State commander killed
Another IS HVT may have been killed by the US. This time one from Indonesia. The Indonesians fear reprisals from their own branch of IS if the reports are true. Meanwhile they're investigating:
Online messages from Islamic State propagandists viewed by Reuters say Bahrumsyah, an Indonesian national, died after U.S. air strikes hit Hajin, north of the Syrian city of Abu Kamal, last Tuesday.

A spokesman for Indonesia’s foreign ministry, Arrmanatha Nasir, said the embassy in Syria had made enquiries but had yet to confirm Bahrumsyah’s death.

Two senior Indonesian counter-terrorism officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they were taking the online reports seriously.

“We are in the process of investigating,” said one senior official with Indonesia’s counter-terrorism agency.

If the reports were true, it would become a “motivation to carry out reprisal attacks” in Indonesia, the senior official said.

A Pentagon spokesman, Eric Pahon, said U.S. aircraft were bombing the “general area” in eastern Syria on the day Bahrumsyah is believed to have died but was unable to confirm his death.
He is believed to be involved in funding last year in the Philippines when IS captured part of Marawi:
As well as leading Katibah Nusantara, an armed unit comprising more than 100 Southeast Asians, Bahrumsyah also organised funding for the Islamist rebels who captured part of the southern Philippines city of Marawi in a bloody siege last year, analysts and officials say.

A message purportedly from the Islamic State figure Abu Nuh reviewed by Reuters said Bahrumsyah had been attending a meeting of leaders when he was killed. An Islamic State headquarters and a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device factory were destroyed in the attack, the message said.
The reports of his death this time :) have a “much higher degree of credibility" but if true, he's the highest ranking Indonesian killed whilst fighting with IS
Another post eulogised the Indonesian, receiving sympathetic comments and crying emojis.

There were reports last year of Bahrumsyah’s death, but analyst Sidney Jones from the Jakarta-based Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict said the latest had a “much higher degree of credibility”.

“As far as we know, he was the highest ranking Indonesian to fight with ISIS. The fact that he commanded a fighting unit that was recognised by ISIS underscores his importance,” said Jones, using an alternative acronym for Islamic State.

Another post eulogised the Indonesian, receiving sympathetic comments and crying emojis.
Indonesia believe over 600 of their citizens went to Syria to fight for IS including their families:
More than 600 Indonesians, including at least 166 women and children, travelled to Syria to join Islamic State, according to data from Indonesia’s counter-terrorism agency reviewed by Reuters.

A further 482 Indonesians were deported by foreign governments trying to join IS.

“I don’t expect a flood of people to come back (to Indonesia), although there will be some people trying,” Jones said.[

I believe TOW was given to some FSA in '13 and '14. Problem is, like the conscripted jihadi's, they change sides :) Where the 'other kit' came from is anyone's guess. Even the AK's and 7.62 x 39 ammo could have been via 'the West' as you're not going to arm them with something they don't already know how to use unless you have direct control over them such as the SDF to complete training.

ManPADS was a massive 'no no' but Chinese and other kit has ended up out there.

As the 'moderate rebels' started to die or were dealt with by the 'beards', so those organisations took what they had and used it.
As you say, it would be very interesting if anyone can shed light on other kit.
Heavy kit captured from SAA and allies. Support kit from various sources eg captured from other groups, supplied by 'the West' or just captured from the SAA and allies. Small arms captured from SAA and allies, other groups and possibly 'the West' from way back.
The comms kit looks decent, to my uniformed eye.
Uniformed? :) It looks brand spankers and the manual pretty much untouched. Like any encrypted comms kit, you need to know which crypto your friends are using and frequencies. Probably seemed too much effort wherever they got it from.

I note the Russian SF doing the CP work were using western kit such as OpsCore helmet to 'emulate' their western counterparts. It's never black and white who supplies what and where it ends up in such conflicts like Syria.

At least when it comes to Idlib they won't have to face so many T55's, BMP's, ZSU-23-4's, recoilless rifles, atgm's etc etc as they only seem to have taken personal weapons with them. Not sure on support eg LMGs etc.

Russian TV Uses Film Stills as Proof Syria Chemical Attack Was Staged
Taken from ‘the other thread’ posted by @Zemlyak A Moscow Times article on Russia faking their ‘staged attack’ by using old stills:
Russian officials insist the attack was “staged,” a claim that the fact-checking website Snopes.com dismisses as “false” given that old film stills have been proffered as proof.

Both Channel One and Rossia 1’s flagship Sunday news show “Vesti Nedeli” used photographs from a Syrian-born director’s 2016 film shoot as evidence that anti-government forces falsified the chemical attacks.

“Western politicians and the press are ignoring clear proof that there was no chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma,” a Channel One anchorwoman said Sunday as stills from the movie set appeared on screen.
Not the first time, undoubtedly it’ll not be the last:
This is the latest in a string of high-level visual gaffes. Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry used video game footage as “irrefutable evidence” of U.S. support for terrorists in the Middle East, and President Vladimir Putin tried to pass off 2013 U.S. military footage in Afghanistan as Russia in Syria.
FACT CHECK: Proof the White Helmets 'Staged' a Chemical Attack in Syria?

Horses to water and all that. You don't have a gazillion spoof youtube vids with big red arrows on them. Besides, only special people can work out the truth because everyone else are sheeple.

My BDA knowledge, knowledge of CWC, UNSC etc. is zero. I
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

So, you know nothing about stuff that you're talking to quite a few specialists about and choose to push Russian agitprop.

Why is that?

Until you get a sense of proportion, you are the government "bot"
Over 40,000 people died of cold in the UK this winter and nobody gives a shit. I hope you do, by the way.
Why would the British Government care about 60 gassed Syrians, even if it were true?
The war in Syria is an excuse for something other than saving Syrians from Assad. That would be the common sense approach, I think.
British ally and partner Saudi Arabia has chopped how many heads off this year?
Wake up folks! You are suffering from propaganda.
You haven't got a Scooby have you?

Look at Iran's chosen execution methods, compare and contrast numbers with KSA and then, give your head a wobble.

How much time have you spent in the ME "Steve"?
