Swiss nationalist deportation plan condemned

#1
Switzerland's largest political party was today accused of promoting an oppressive deportation scheme that allegedly mirrors a law operated by Nazi Germany.

The nationalist Swiss People's party, which shares power in the governing coalition, has proposed new legislation that would see entire families of immigrants deported if their children are convicted of crimes involving violence, drugs or benefit fraud.

If approved in a proposed referendum, it would become the only law of its kind in Europe.

Ueli Maurer, the People's party president, said: "We believe that parents are responsible for bringing up their children. If they can't do it properly, they will have to bear the consequences."

The party claims foreigners, who make up about 20% of the Swiss population, are four times more likely to commit crimes than Swiss nationals.

"As soon as the first 10 families and their children have been expelled from the country, then things will get better at a stroke," Mr Maurer said.

The party has also suggested banning the building of minaret towers alongside mosques.

Seems fair enough, it does not deserve the usual left wing "nazi' smears

Quite agree, seems only fair that if you break the laws of your adopted country they should be allowed to throw you and your family out. Its only this Country that rewards such people with more benefits, bigger houses etc...

Switzerland gives me the fcuking creeps for some reason.

That being said...I suppose wherever the measure comes from, it would encourage parents to wake up to what their kids are doing.

Actually i lived in switzerland for a couple of years and loved it. Alot of their laws are spot on and they are not afraid to get stuck in to issues like this. They have a referendum on every important issue and only native swiss are allowed to vote. They give out work permits to migrants but are sparing with handing out passports even if you marry a swiss chick.
Its about the closest any county comes to genuine democracy, but also they do handle the welfare pretty well too. There unemployment payments are like 70% of the salary of your last job for up to 2 years, but because they have a pretty good work ethic unlike most of our dole scroungers they do actually look for a job.

But on the social side they lay on a good bash too. I was most suprised 'cos i had bought into the swiss are dull myth too. But they organise loads of free street parties and music festivals all through the summer. Not grimy somme re-enactments like glastonbur, but well organised affairs with great food, good acts, and proper facilities. Defo worth a weekend trip to Paleo or the Fete de Geneve.
They have a pretty big reserve force of about 400k i think, and although most of them need a haircut they do take it seriously and are pretty good shots. They all keep their rifles and ammo at home. Can you imagine in the UK? The pawn shops would be full of rifles within hours...

But anyway, in short I think we could learn alot from the swiss about how to run a country. Blair and Brown would never have been able to get away with half the crap they have pulled over the last decade. I reckon i'll move back there eventually, if only for the weekend skiing.

Good luck to them....the benefits of not being an EU member..you can make your own laws.

Typical Grauniad response..they hate democracy when it isn't used in accordance with the liberal left agenda.

Legal eagle, I cannot believe you, as a law student, support this propsed measure.

It is unfair and draconian and the stench of populist reactionary legislation permeates the measure.

How can anyone ever seriously contemplate deport whole families due to the action of one person?

It goes against every measure of decency and fairplay.

I agree, should not be done...waste of time and money...shoot them instead and then use their bodies (suitably minced) as food aid for africa.

So in your view, whole families should be shot and/or deport because of the actions of one member of their family.

I hope your kids never play truant, take marijuana, shoplift, commit verbal assault or perform acts of criminal damage.

Law Graduate actually and I'm afraid I do. I probably wouldn't have until fairly recently but things have gone way too far.

It's all very well for the smug liberal left to sound off about things like this (and I'm not accusing you of being such a person I'm just making a point now) but how many of them live in the inner city estates that really suffer from mass immigration...

They didn't, I taught them right from wrong and how to behave in a decent manner.

I'll qualify my last further by adding that perhaps if the families of the young Jihadis in the this country knew they would face deportation due to the actions of their wayward sons they might get a grip on them before the radical immans do.....

I too am a law graduate and I too live in an inner city estate but I think you are conflating issues here. This is not about immigration. There is a way to control immigration and that is to close the loop holes of marriage and imposing strict liability in cases of illegal immigration.

Problem solved.

The measure is very clearly nothing more than reactionary nonsense designed to appeal to the baser instincts of an electorate who's bought into the anti-immigration feeding frenzy precipitated by an uncontrolled liberal (not Liberal) media.

How can it ever be acceptable to punish people for crimes they did not commit? Realistically, how can one private citizen control the actions of another even if they are family? Cut them off? Then they go off and bomb an airport. Deportation time! Beat the shit out of them? Jail, then Deportation time! Feck me! I'll keep the kids locked an a cage then. Social services hear of this - Deportation time!
