The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
Some old postcards of the Suez canal.
There's something all wrong with the second one. The relative scale and perspective is all over the place. A poor photomontage knocked out for tourists by someone who lived in a tent, I would think.
Another strange one here, ship, train and car.
Last time I transited the Suez I almost successfully negotiated a swap of several camels for one of the wrens stood on the flightdeck. She had no idea what I was doing and I told her I was trying to get her a cheaper deal on one of the headscarves they (the chogis in the boats) were trying to flog. Her nodding and smiling at them as they gesticulated to her created much excitement amongst them and pretty soon the ship was being followed by a massive wake of choggies in boats all eager to bag themselves a wren. We had to get the "gully-gully man" (bloke who does magic tricks) who was onboard to calm the situation as quite a few ended up trying to board us via the quarterdeck.
I received a bit of a bollocking issued through bouts of barely disguised laughter.
