Strongarm tactics to punish Naomi Osaka.

If it's in the contract, you need to do what you agreed; If the press start getting uppity because of your behaviour elsewhere, speak to the organisers about keeping the press' questions relevant to the tournament.

The organisers should have a minimum duty of care towards the people under contract, particularly in terms of MH.
In fairness to the organisers, making an MH call is becoming increasingly difficult given the increasingly large number of public figures claiming to be clinically insane for publicity reasons.

Some of these competitions have £multi-million prize pots, and those competing for them are kids/young adults who (generally) have been conditioned from puberty to do nothing but win at all costs.

With that kinds of unrelenting pressure, I'm surprised more of them don't go completely hatstand.

So what we have is a professional signs a short term contract, fails to fulfill their part of the contact and leaves.

She's been doing her job for the last decade, has several million in the bank so could, for the sake of her mental health step away from the pressure and the limelight and enjoy a quieter time playing the game she loves.

Of course she'd give up this, from Wiki:

Osaka is one of the most marketable athletes in the world. She earned an estimated $16 million in endorsements alone in 2019, which placed her second among female athletes behind only Serena Williams who earned $25 million. The following year, she became the highest-paid female athlete of all time, having earned $37.4 million in total, including $34 million in endorsements. Overall, she was the 29th highest-paid athlete in 2020 and the 8th highest-paid athlete in endorsements alone.

Nah, not quite that B+W - 'cos real life never is.....seen elsewhere, just to break out of the echo-chamber for a sec, a different perspective:

'' Just to put a capper on the Naomi Osaka threads, to those who said

"Yeah, but she should have told the French Open officials before" - SHE DID.

And instead of respecting her request, and her offer to pay the fines?

They convinced the heads of the 3 other Grand Slams to go along with their agenda, and THEN, they publicized it.

She didn't start out publicizing it. She tried to be professional, and respectful. They did not. They just tried to punish her by rubbing her nose in it.

These are the same kind of people who refuse to believe soldiers have combat PTSD, and call them "cowards" before sending them back to the front lines.

No one should be supporting the way they have behaved. No one.

I was wrong when I said the behavior of the officials was all about money. It's not about money at all.

It's about control. ''
