Stamps for Them

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Nice, I've sent you an email.

  2. Nice gesture, nice stamp, but (huh hmmm, clears throat) degrees not mils on the compass rose?

    Tch tch tch!!!

  3. You've picked up on the little detail - the stamp actually commemorates the sterling, and oft unrecognised work of the little known survey squadron of the SASR. They specialise in running covert survey schemes, using lightweight air-droppable theodilites, and camouflaged, extra long tape measures.

Unit motto - "who measures, wins"

It also explains the lack of black nasty stripes across the eye area. It's impossible to operate precision surveying equipment with a black nasty stripe, so all members of the ultra-elite survey squadron are given a face transplant before discharge or RTU, to preserve their anonymity.
