A Red Army version of the Kingo's?
Hear about it first time. I have read memoirs written by marshall Zhukov where he decribed Stalin in different situations. I have an imperssion that Stalin was very realistic man. Ha hadn't much time to wait the end of this alleged experiment. He always wanted concrete results 'just now'.

PS. Recently Russian television showed result of another (but real) Soviet project: so called dog-wolves. Many years ago a female-wolf was discovered and she was unexpectedly friendly to people. She was used to create a new breed. These dog-wolves are like dogs in their attitude to human beings but as wolves they are tireless, can sleep on a snow, have better sense of smell and so on. I saw these beasts on TV.

"Immense strength but an underdeveloped brain"
Sounds like the perfect communist citizen.

Ivanov was arrested in 1930 after his project failed, and he died in a labour camp two years later
Killed for failing to achieve the impossible -- just like so many others during that period. Or, perhaps he was a "wrecker", a "saboteur", and failed to believe sufficiently in the ability of Soviet science and the rightness of the Soviet cause. I'd wager that the "trial" judgment says something along those lines.

Hmmm, that rings a bell. I'm sure I've heard of a programme in the past where, through a programme of selective breeding, wolves were made ameneable to humans and usable by humans. Now what did they call those buggers........................ah got it!

Dogs.

Isn't that the exactly opposit to what the German try to do in the 1930s & 1940s? I mean the SS try to breed their "master race" with the selected SS officers and German women. They didn't seem to have too much success either.

Sorry Sergey I'm not too good on the old Cyrillic so could you spell out the gist of those 3 articles briefly in English?

Heard of the Russians breeding not dog-wolves, but a new breed of dog, the black Russian something. It was to be used as an attack dog and hence was black as the night, strong and deadly aggressive. Or was to be. Not sure if it actually worked...

And why would an underdeveloped brain be good for an "invincible army"? We have enough mong moments as it is thankyou very much Josef! Can you imagine section attacks with a load of apes... Guessing these guys weren't going to be commanders, helicopter pilots, engineers, surgeons, or bomb disposal then!

hold on, why can't mutant genetically engineered apes be pilots and ATOs - we let naturally occuring mongs into these trades, nay positively select for them!

They breed and sell wolf/dog hybrids in the USA.

I have heard them compared to unexploded ordnance. You never can tell when one might "go off" with catastrophic results, or so the story went.

Stalin might just have been ahead of his time.

He reigned before the mapping of the human genome and before anyone even knew what DNA was.

I wouldn't assume that this horrifying proposal isn't being explored somewhere right now or that it holds no prospect of success.

More primates in the news.

A GERMAN art expert was fooled into believing a painting done by a chimpanzee was the work of a master.

The director of the State Art Museum of Moritzburg in Saxony-Anhalt, Katja Schneider, suggested the painting was by the Guggenheim Prize-winning artist Ernst Wilhelm Nay.
"It looks like an Ernst Wilhelm Nay. He was famous for using such blotches of colour," Dr Schneider confidently asserted.

The canvas was actually the work of Banghi, a 31-year-old female chimp at the local zoo.

While Banghi likes to paint, she is not able to build up much of a body of work as her mate Satscho generally destroys her paintings before they can get to the gallery.

I can only deplore the masculine hegemonic behavior of the male chimp in depriving the female of her innate right to her own intellectual interests and career.

Question to Sergey (sorry, not hijacking the thread)

A mate told me of a Russian tv show he had heard about (so it's a 3rd hand story to start with  )

He said there is a show where the aim is to steal a nice brand new car and get it to a certain point and avoid the police etc...

He said it normally ends in a chase, speeding across the city... the thing with the show is that if you are caught you are nicked and likely to be chucked away for a while and do the time...if you don't get caught the car is yours!!

True or have we been victims of a wah??!!

The only reason I think it could be plausible is the only Russian tv I have seen is people doing various things just to get on tv, such as:-

1. A man holding his daughter's hair in his mouth as she dangled freely from a 5th floor balcony
2. A guy going to a small store, buying 2 large bottles of vodka and downing them both in 3 minutes...no problem!

So, the car thing seemed quite likely.

There are on-line translators. For example http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products_services/worldlingo_translator.html

Sometimes translation is very 'funny'. Sorry, the articles are too big, their translation is a hard task for me.
