Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) - Forces Help is the national charity helping and supporting those who serve in the British Armed Forces, those who used to serve, and the families of both. One day’s paid service is all that is needed to qualify for our assistance.

In partnership with the Ministry of Defence, SSAFA has set up a new Operational Welfare Fund dedicated to providing support to the front line. Although the MOD provides a comprehensive Deployment Welfare Package which includes; a free mail service, 30 minutes of telephone calls a week and Internet access, there are still areas where life can be improved. The priority for spending from this fund will be set by the commanders in order to meet areas of greatest need.

Life in the Services is full of opportunity, but it can also bring challenges – pressures of living in conflict situations, new postings, leaving families behind.... The battlefield brings along additional worries and pressures for our troops and they need our support most at this time. If you decide to contribute to SSAFA’s Operational Welfare Fund, you will be helping to improve the quality of life for our brave Servicemen and women currently in theatre in Iraq or Afghanistan.

A reminder that this is an option people can use rather than shoe boxes, the use of which is getting so much mixed publicity at the moment.
