Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. A couple of questions could you advise if possible please.

Joining the TA .... I am very hands on ie: I fix computers, and I love getting down n dirty with any repair work, DIY and building.... strange for a female maybe to some (and i am heterosexual before I get beefy comments) but I'd rather have a shovel in a mountain of sand than go 'shoppingggggg'.....

Point is I have basically been told that I can go and do pretty much anything apart from infantry roles.

Armourer appeals to me but among the many trades:

    1) Which would be the best for progression?

    2) Which would be the higher sought after trade most likely for deployment?

    Thankyouuuuuuuuuuuuu !!!
  2. REME?

Re deployment, any trade can volunteer; it's the likes of the RAMC(V) who are forever getting volunteered, which may be worth bearing in mind!
  3. To be honest though, best advice is see if you like the unit you'll be going to, rather than focussing too much on the job.
  4. Thankyou for replying

I get to check out REME on the 13th :)
  5. Ammo Specialist (TA Ammo Tech) is also worth considering if you want to join national TA..

Promotion good (once we get JPA fixed..)

Takes about 3-4 years to become deployable (EG Class 2 Cpl), but once there can deploy as much as you want...

Join the unit not the trade. My advice, there are good and bad units, due to history, location, recent deployments etc.. Visit 2/3 in your local area and pick the one that most fitted your ratio of fun/professionalism.
  7. What locality are you in, it could help!
  8. Some great feedback so far thankyou loads,

    I'm in Egham,Surrey
  9. You have Signals in Windsor 01753 860600, with a REME LAD also in Chertsey. They have Techs and REME too. In fact I think you only have Signals within 10 miles!
  10. are you charlie dimmocks
  11. If you are really interested in the armourer trade I can heartly recommend it.

They are a generally a very skilful bunch and are always sought after as a result. A good armourer is worth their weight in gold, and thats from a 30+ year VM!
  12. Hiya just wanted to update.

Been going to my nearest REME unit and came back from my selection weekend last night.

I fkd my run, well i completed it but over time. The hill at crowborough murdered me and i puked at the end lol
But I loved every second of it all.
I came above average on everything else and I can do my armourer position.
Just gotta get revenge on the run in 4 weeks time.
I came home aching to hell, BUT felt so bored, missed the shouting, missed all of it.
Jesus Ive never been so happy in my life, its taken 32 years to finally feel complete, like im actually breaking into the person ive always dreamed of being inside.

A huge thankyou to everyone who has advised....... im in heaven.

    All the best ;) x

  13. Good effort, just nail that run time for next time!

Get up in the morning, run somewhere for 15 minutes, turn around and run back home again so roughly a 30 minute work out!

Start simple to knock the minutes off then browse the wealth of knowledge in the health and fitness section to reduce it further once you have that base level of fitness.

Glad to hear you got your job choice too and good luck in the future!

  14. What's with the sudden obsession for Armourers. Is it due to the stunning reputation that I'm setting?

Be warned. Courses are only one a year and they're often cancelled. Plus (as my padawan will tell you) there's a lot of theory on it, which isn't easy.

Why thankyou. Oh wait, you said a good Armourer...
