Spine Race 2020

There was heavy rain all day yesterday in Northumberland .... ground conditions will continue to be bad ... some sections between Bellingham and before joining the Forest Track SSE of Byrness will be extremely challenging ... the wind has eased .

Not much rest for John Kelly, he's left Bellingham. It's a fascinating distraction from doing any real work here at Stats HQ!

He looks very well rested apparently!

JC out of Bellingham, he has to be running on fumes by now
It would be interesting to see the stats if athletes were fully wired up for these events for data. Looking at things like Heart rates, actual sleep times, calories used, hormone levels and blood sugar etc...

From twitter, it looks like he got nearly an hour or so of kip. Jayson is already pushing through Bellingham, did he get some kip back at Alston?

This is warming up to a good race. Will Eoin be able to hunt down the first two? Will the front two burn and drop? That said Jayson looks fresh and ready to go in the photo from Bellingham. Wonder how John Kelly is feeling although he seems to have had the measure of the race from the get go.

Near Paddon Hill Monument in June 2019 when I watched the Fusion race ….and took in the views ... somewhat warmer … the ground in that area is rocky with silt and with all this rain will be like porage in parts .

JK looking good :D The winner? Probably. Deserved..

And off again! Leaving nothing to chance of being caught.

On second thoughts a glitch with his tracker

The weather looks quite good for the next 18 hours .... little chance of rain but now with a blustery WSW wind which may assist on some of the initial climbs on the final leg .

Jaysons Tracker is showing him on the road now, a few k shy of Byrness. is there an issue with trackers in that area ?

That climb out of Byrness.....

Could Jayson have judged this to perfection? A measured approach to conditions and pacing worked well for Tom Hollins a few years back (although I think he slept in a camper van which isn’t allowed anymore)

Saw that and commented! It looks like a glitch if you check his route. Just showing straight line for quite a while. He was in Gateshead this morning according to his tracker
