Update: DUFTON 30 MINUTE LIMIT LIFTED
Generally, Dufton is one of our 'half-checkpoints', an aid station where runners can stop for a maximum of 30 minutes. However, in light of the rough weather, this restriction has been lifted.
This will allow the runners to plan their race around gaps in the worst of the conditions if they wish.

The leaders can almost see the ski resort*...

Sabrina and Simon now safely off Cross Fell at Gregs Hut although it is a bloody awful track down to Garrigil it is easier to navigate. Meanwhile Wouter on his own on Knock Old Man heading toward Great Dunn Fell hopefully visibility is good enough so that he can see the radar domes as a navigation guide

Looks like Jayson Cavill is 2nd out of Alston (I orignally said Middleton, I'll blame that on sleep deprivation...).

Looks like Jayson has cracked on through Alston , Eoin and Eugeni still asleep and JC disappearing into the distance.

Sabrine Verjee and Simon Gfeller static in greg's hut. Eating Noodles or getting their noodles down?

Incredible race. I wonder if Jason has been deliberately holding back.
I can't see John Kelly keeping up that pace. Can he kip at Greenhead and set off a bit fresher when the others catch up, or is there a time limit at that CP?

There's no checkpoint at Greenhead. The best place for sleeping mid-stage is the public toilets on Hadrian's Wall.

It is John Kelly, and his ability (or not) to go without sleep is what it's all about now surely? So many different scenarios with weather, nav, pace, equipment choices and even nutrition playing a part.

My predictions: John Kelly pushes on and falls asleep somewhere near the Schil and is carried off the hill. Jayson gets caught out in the forestry blocks between Bellingham and Byrness and is overtaken by Eoin who heads on toward glory at KY. Only to realise, as he approaches the finish that Eugeni has reached the pub first, coming in from the north, being completely lost as per SOP's. Eugeni wins by mistakenly touching the wall whilst he's looking in his bag for his map as Eoin approaches.

Don't @ me when it happens

Thanks, thought the circle on the map was a CP.

The circles are timing locations. All of the 5 main checkpoints are also timing locations, but some of the other timing locations are a bit random. For instance there’s one at Malham village whereas CP1.5 is further up at Malham tarn. The one at Byrness has been moved to CP5.5 at Forest View this year though (in previous years it was just before it where the Pennine Way crosses the main road which sometimes caused confusion).

For reference, JK is at ~199 miles at 57:36, Jasmin was at ~199 at 56:02.

If you do get a chance to watch the The Barkley Marathons: The Race That Eats Its Young, it is well worth a watch. If I have done this right then it should take you to JK finishing the Barkley (go to approx 10'38" if not).
