Specialisation within the Parchute Regiment ?

#1
Hello guys, I am looking to be in training for the Parachute Regiment early next year. Although i am not even in Phase 1 training yet I was wondering if any of you knew if the TACP(FAC) Specialisation was available to members of the Parachute Regiment? I have a good friend who is RM who is TACP but i do not know of any Para Reg lads that are?

Any insight would be great, thank you.

Theoretically yes, but you'll have much higher infantry priorities at LCpl (and you're more likely to pushed towards these before doing anything else)

edited to say: i wasn't a Para though - so take what i say with small pinch of salt

Thank you, the specialisation just really appeals to me. Is nice to have a few good answers though.

Thanks guys.

Do any of you know what the earliest is that i can start my application without parental consent? My dad let me run around getting all the paper work, forms, certificates needed to prove i was a UK citizen and that i had qualifications, then took great delight in refusing to sign my forms. I am 17yr 1mth. One Sgt at the AFCO near me said i could around November, but i would like that clarified? If any of you know that is.

Thanks again.

To be honest I don't think CO's would employ a L/Cpl as a TACP. I know in 3 PARA it's mostly experienced full screws with around 10 years experience that have done the course.

I need my parental consent though. And that is my only stumbling block. I'll get onto the Parachute Regiment recruitment team tomorrow for a definitive answer.

Thank you for all your help/advice guys!

Out of curiosity, are they drawn from the MSpt Coy or does it not matter? I'd have thought Rifle Coy screws would have had a bit much on their plate already.

One of my screws (FSG) did the course and was posted to a rifle coy for the duration of H13.
Is it unusual for them to be taken out of the Rifle Coy ORBAT to fill the role rather than being att from another one? Just idle curiosity, but I was wondering if Rifle Section Commanders get FAC trained and expected to still command sections as well.

Why not join as a Pioneer and be a skilled tradesman as well as a fighting soldier. I'd recommend it to anyone and you get the opportunity to get trained on some gucci kit like grenades and javelen.

Smartas, asked if there were drawn from mtrplatoon, ( not THE mortar plt) as jnco's in the relevant company's might be a tad busy at the mo. The post seemed in my opinion to suggest that those jnco's would not be suitable. I simply stated that all persons that joined the infantry would be infantry first, trade ( MFC etal) second, as not to discriminate the ability of said man.

Are you sure that you're in the Army you ******* homo?

That's the most ridiculous suggestion I've read all day. ******* Pioneer??! I'd rather eat my own shit than dig graves, and put up barbed wire.

Grenades..........Gucci?!! WTF!

Take your gay photos, and **** off little boy.

I think it goes two tapes you can read and write, one tape you can read or write & no tapes you know someone who can do one or the other
