Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I'm sure you have all rushed out to buy a PSP today :) and after getting bored playing games you are wondering... How can I transfer the 'cultural' DVD's I brought back from the dodgy video shop in Bielefeld to my PSP's memory stick.....

Get a copy of the latest verion of Nero 6.6 you need to use Nero Recode which comes under the 'Nero Digital' menu. You may also want to download a copy of AnyDVD and install this first. This strips out the region coding and any encryption to allow you to make backup copies for your own personal use :)

    Install AnyDVD first

    Install Nero

Plug in PSP with 1Gb memory stick and select USB option to connect to PC

Launch Nero Recode. There is a PSP compatible option for output. You can select the quality by changing the file size. About 400 - 500mb for a average film is OK.

Nero Recode will 'burn' the film directly to your PSP Memory Stick ready to watch.

I have found this to be the best tool as some of the others give very bad lip synch problems. Nero seems to get it right most times and the quality is very good.

With a bit of squeezing you can get 3 films onto 1 memory stick.

  2. There is a very clear step-by-step guide to doing this, using freely downloadable software (DVDDecrypter and PSPVideo9) at

    http://www.mobiledeviant.com/forum/showthread.php?t=901

Note that the link on that page to the DVDDecrypter download site is wrong. You can now get it from: http://www.dvddecrypter.r8.org/

The bloke who wrote the guide also addresses some Q&As on problems people have with lip-synching and so on at: http://www.mobiledeviant.com/forum/showthread.php?t=391.

  3. Tried the free software but found that NTSC gives really bad synching problems when converted to PAL. The Nero software doesn't suffer from this. Its also much quicker. PSPVideo9 took about and hour and a half to convert a Kylie concert, Nero took about 35 minutes to do the same one.

  4. I stand corrected. Good tip - will pass it on to Nerdsville.

  5. LOL

Forgot to mention if you already have Nero 6 then the upgrade is free and of course even if you are using one of the free PSP converters you will still need AnyDVD or a program like it if you have Region 1 or copyprotected DVD's you wish to make personal backup copies of.
