Soldiers' specialist mental health centre 'could close as MoD funding runs out'

"The treatment of veterans with mental health problems has become the subject of a Whitehall row, with defence ministers urging health chiefs to foot more of the bill.

The MoD in 2007 launched the Community Veterans' Mental Health Therapist scheme, a pilot project where clinical psychologists within the NHS work exclusively with former service men and women.

The defence ministry has given the Department of Health £500,000 for the wages of NHS therapists.

But therapists working on the projects in England have been told that the MoD will cease to fund their work from January, leaving them to seek funds from NHS trusts. "
