  2. Questions similar to this have been asked countless times before, both on this board and in the Joining Up section - if you do a search you'll find all the information you need. Briefly, you will get a varied career in the Royal Engineers - one tour could see you doing your trade in a relatively secure location, during another you could be right on the front line as a member of a search team or constructing field defences and bridges under fire as a combat engineer.

In answer to the second part of your question, as a general rule (there are always lots of exceptions in the RE) most people except Geo Techs will spend a large part of their career in Field Squadrons. Artisan tradesmen are generally empoyed in Field Troops whereas drivers, signallers and plant ops can also be found in Support Troops and, in the case of the first two, HQ Troops. For most trades, you will find yourself doing more combat engineering than anything else.

  5. Try yellow pages.

  6. Why ask a question if you are going to ignore the ansewer you feckin sock chewing window licker?!

  7. As a sparky you'll probably get the chance to do your trade a bit more than some others. There is about a 99.9% chance that your first posting will be to a Field Squadron of some sort, where you'll be employed in a combat engineer section alongside all sort of other tradesmen.

By the way, you're welcome
