It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce the death of a soldier from 73 Engineer Regiment (Volunteers), attached to the 3 Royal Anglian Group, in Cyprus, yesterday, Tuesday 3 May 2011.

The soldier was deployed on operations as part of Operation TOSCA, the United Nations Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) based in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Spokesman for the UK UNFICYP contingent, Captain Matt Lindow, said:

"Unfortunately I must announce the death of a soldier from 73 Engineer Regiment (V), attached to 3 Royal Anglian Group, who are part of the UK contingent supporting Op TOSCA in Cyprus.

"The soldier was taking part in a mountain biking activity during which he was taken ill. Following evacuation to hospital in Nicosia he was later pronounced dead.

"His commitment and selfless dedication to the Territorial Army will not be forgotten; he will be dearly remembered by all whom have had the privilege to serve with him. We offer heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. We will remember him
