  1. Soldier from 1st Battalion The Scots Guards dies in Selly Oak

It is with deep sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm the death of a British soldier of 1st Battalion The Scots Guards.

The soldier died in Selly Oak Hospital today as a result of injuries sustained whilst serving in Iraq on Wednesday 12 December 2007.

The soldier was travelling in a Warrior Armoured Vehicle which was involved in a road traffic accident in Basra Province, Southern Iraq.

He was taken to the Field Hospital at the UK base at Basra Air Station and subsequently flown to the UK for treatment but sadly he succumbed to his injuries.

The soldiers next of kin have been informed and have requested a period of grace before further details are released.

RIP & thougts to family and friends
