SO19 TV programme now on ITV

the SFO's can solely concentrate their training time on urban based ops, as Im guessing there is no need for SFO's to be capable in any other environments such as desert, jungle etc.

Whereas the SAS have to distribute all their training time with all their roles.

Of course, because THEY never do any form of intensive ongoing training in urban ops, after all, there are no urban areas in the UK, Afghan, Iraq, Columbia, SL etc, etc, etc.

How's about the train of thought that they might actually be good at ALL of them instead of being, as you are implying, "Jacks of all trades and masters of none"

Noticed this photo in the press a while back when the police shot that ex-TA barrister.....

Who are these seemingly unarmed balaclava types then? SFOs?

Thank God they came into being.

Remember George Davis got nicked after his 'George Davis is innocent' campaign led by Rose back in the late seventies. The tossers dug up the Test pitch at Lords when England were on the brink.

His wife Rose was his Champion, bless her. When he got swagged off after this outside the Bank of Cyprus, Holloway Road - a C8 D.S. banged off 5 from a snub .38 and didn't even hit a building. FFS.

Minstrels? Just about to break into a chorus Swanee River.

They need Armed Guards these days due to the prejudices of some people.

I raised this question some time ago as I arrived at that scene pretty early and spotted a few of thse blokes who seemed to be observing rather than
taking an active role.

I suspect they are work experience lads - the left hand bloke is leaning in to ask 'how many sugars?'...

...either that or they are some of SRR blokes attached to the Yard.

edited due to hang over induced sausage fingers.

Burglars.

The met's burglary clear up rate is f ucking shite, now you can see why.

Apparently after slotting the barrister, the firearms crew helped them load a plasma screen and stereo into their car aswell

Couldn't catch a proper crook if he...er...stood behind them.

Excellent! Laughed like a drain.

SFO's and "them" are poles apart in many respects, mainly due to CO19 being civil servants effectively and therefore "rules of engagement" are rightly attached firmly to the UK law and use of force legislation. However, where intervention and rapid entry are concerned, CO19 SFO's ans to some degree ARV's and TST's are very clued up, well practiced and very effective - we have lots to learn from each other.

Trotsky,

is it true that THEM go on detachment with the SFO's???

whats the standard difference like for that particular role??

I'm guessing the SFO's are a higher standard than SAS, as thats all they do, and all the train for??

Thats what the bloke who wrote the book 'The Good Guys Wear Black' about the then SO19 claimed!

If it were true they'd use CO19 to end armed sieges on planes and embassys etc!

Not one of"them" no..seeing as you ask..All the teams are very busy guys and train relentlessly. All are very committed, fit and switched on people, but none would claim to be in the same bracket as "them", although some of the training and ops work is the same or very similar, and cross training is a regular feature of CO19 work.
