So to the real sport! The Ashes

... just make sure his tissue doesn't have any grit stuck to it!
Quite. There but for the grace of God etc...

'Kevin Pietersen has claimed former England captain Mike Atherton's career would have been "ruined" by a ball-tampering scandal had social media existed in the 1990s.

'Atherton was fined after being accused of using dirt in his pocket to alter the condition of the ball during the Lord's Test against South Africa in 1994, sparking widespread condemnation, but ultimately not the loss of his job.'

Atherton ball-tampering would ruin career in social media era: Pietersen

I spent lunch in the company of a true Ashes legend. The speaker at today’s Rugby Club lunch was Neil Harvey. The last survivor of Bradman’s Invincibles and still able to entertain an audience for nearly an hour at 90. An immense privilege even if he was a wingeing Aussie. Not too complimentary about Smith and Warner...

England about to lose badly to Pakistan.
Arse.

A perfect batting day at Lords and England are making a complete hash of it.
Can we not get rid of Trevor Bayliss? I’m convinced he’s an Aussie Trojan horse!

Even worse, Root out.

Losing the first test in 3 days. Awful, just awful.

Embarrassing I’d call it. We can’t blame white ball cricket either, as the Pakistan team is chocked full of so-called one day specialists.
Lack of preparation, a bit of complacency and the usual touch of arrogance has a lot to do with it, in my humble opinion.:-(

I would not be so kind.

Cook now only occasionally comes out with a useful innings, but not a match winning or match saving innings. Root does his best, but there must be something deeply wrong with England when this sort of thing happens repeatedly.

England should, on paper, be a very strong team but its agonising.

To be fair, a great partnership by Buttler and Bess today, but it doesn’t hide the fact our top order batting is as brittle as a dose of osteoporosis at the moment.

Dom Bess is the pick of the week. A superb batting performance which with Buttler, stopped England from being a disgrace. I did think that it would be over today. I still do not believe that there will be a 1981 styleee miracle.

Bess I feel has secured his place for the next test, but his bowling was not that impressive. From what I saw, he did not turn it at all.

I thought Stoneman was going to be a world class batsman, but I seriously doubt that now. I doubt Cook even more. He was stitched up this morning.

Despite Bess and Buttler putting a smile on my face, it has not overcome the despair of 2 and half days of crap England cricket.

I would have loved to hear what he had to say.

Well, if you're going to accuse him of that, at least learn who to spell the bloody word!
It’s the last thing I’m accusing him of; he’s of that generation, whether Aussie or Pom who just never complained whatever the challenge or adversity they faced. Harvey came from Broken Hill; tough stock....

I was just having a dig at my adopted country’s current crop of preaning celebrity cricketer cheats.

So England have brought their pack of collapsing cards with them this morning. Two overs, two wickets.
Edited to add - all out in 27 minutes this morning. Well bowled Pakistan. It’s the hope that kills you!

Watching Root on his knees, if he's praying then he's left it to damn late.

I don't think he's Captain material. A damn awful performance by England.

This morning, Bess did get some turn, but the game was nearly finished by then. I think Root is only the captain because there were no other likely candidates at the time. If he wasn't in the post, who would be?
