So Mike Yardley and all of the soon expected to appear gun control band wagon jumpers starting to , are the Kiwi's F u Cked when it comes to shooting?

The country is awash with firearms and has a gun violence rate rather higher than other similarly-developed countries.

You just refuse to admit that it’s a problem.
Because those other countries don't really have many guns, a better comparison would be straight up violence statistics... afterall, we don't have as many stabbings as sophisticated London, do we?

Statistically speaking, and on the basis of murders, London and the north west (the most dangerous regions) are safer than any US state other than Maine, North Dakota and New Hampshire.

Have we had any silly householder prosecutions? Only case I can think of that went anywhere was Tony Martin, and that was because he shot someone who was trying to flee.
Way back in the early 80's a jeweller and his pregnant wife were held at gunpoint by a burglar who emptied their safe. The Jeweller got free and turned the gun on the burglar who insisted it was in the house and not his. The police charged the jeweller with possession.
Lots of silly things happened until the CPS were given direction by the last coalition govt!

What ever incompetence the authorities demonstrate I still believe its better to be judged by twelve than be carried by six.

Except London had 132 people killed in 2018. To make it even better 57 percent were stabbings. The odds of getting stabbed or shot by a stranger here are petty low.

To be honest they are in London for most folk. For instance I dont stay over much and socialise, that leaves you open to attack, I also dont go to the less salubrious parts of town unless I'm working there and then there is usually loads of us. Also I dont do yoof discos where op trident (BoB) would be interested in whats stuffed down the backs of the attendees knees, lets face it thats where their waistlines of their strides are!

Well London is the big city murder hole. I would attribute most of that to gang violence. It is just an example of how certain locations can skew the statistics for a country.

It wasn't Martin shooting that diddicoy that fucked him. It was doing it with a firearm obtained illegally and then letting the 'didd' bleed out and not calling an ambulance for him. It's just not sporting!

Gun fanatics going on about slotting burglars in their kitchens: You forget that nigh on all burglaries occur when the house is empty. I don't think you'd shoot anyone you caught in your home unless they attacked you first. And not even then, probably.

If somebody is breaking into your home, when they know it is occupied we will not be playing 20 questions.

I would take London over L.A, anytime (way more) - and I spent a good few years, hanging out in Detroit every weekend.

Politicians have stopped promising to make our world better, they've hit on an easier path that gives them infinite power - they promise to keep us 'safe' - The Power of Nightmares.

A good example? Sheeplefication of children - they won't leave a school without being attired in hi viz and with a first aider, sun hats and each with their bottle of water and all holding onto the 'safe rope' so they don't get separated.
Start as you mean to go on - keep them afraid and they are much easier to control.
Safe rope? Hi-viz jackets? The world's gone mad.

Except for in the UK where the rate of home invasions, especially while residents are in, is increasing, because the crims have a pretty fair idea they won't be shot and it's easier to get the residents to tell you where the loot is rather than look for it.

And it’s still safer than 47 states

Statistics aren’t your strong suit, are they?

You got numbers on that? For comparison?

But not.

London killings: All the victims of 2018

Just using your sources old bean. Statistics are the realm of liars and those with an agenda. Manipulate the data and you can form whatever results you like.
The photographs do paint a picture of gang violence, granted that correlation is not the correct thought process.

That's half as many as the 289 homicides that happened in New York in 2018. Both capital cities with similar populations.

I have no idea what the stats are for NYC. The best correlation that I would come up with is big cities are bad. Smaller towns and rural areas not so much. I think those of you that live in the more rural parts of the UK would feel more comfortable in the rural parts of America and vice versa.
