Smoothing chipped toe cap

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. One of the toe caps on my boots has a nice chip in it (approx 3x2x2 mm), can anybody offer any advice on how to smooth this over.

I know the first answer will be take them to the stores and swap them but,

  2. Not really a great deal you can do, just keep on caking them in polish and leaving them over night. It will get smaller in time.
  3. 1. Plug it up with Parade Gloss (leaving a little mound on top); 2. Leave overnight; 3. G-e-n-t-l-y water-polish around & over the top of it (to a radius of about 30mm); 4. Repeat. Takes time & patience, but it will eventually smooth over.

  4. Smoother the area with polish....set light to it and go from there.
