SMC 5 - Commissioned 35 Years Ago Today

#1
At about this time of this day, 35 years ago, we had marched up the steps into Old College and were handing in SLRs and bayonets, and setting fire to our bulled ammo boots.

To all those who passed out at RMAS on this day, as members of Standard Military Course Number 5 (and in particular the rest of the small handful survived as No 1 (Champion) Platoon, Alamein Company: Greetings.

It was without doubt the proudest day of my life.

I only regret that my father didn't live to see it.

Congratulations Stonker.

IIRC one D. Richards attended POSUC in Victory College just after you passed out as did D. Leakey., and J. Cooper was in the SMC after yours.
Quite a year!

I knew his father, what a brilliant and interesting bloke.

Are you retiring as a Major?
Not quite: I resigned as one, 3 days before Robin Cook quit the gunmint.

My feelings about our 'leaders' at that point about as far removed from 28 June 1974 as anyone could possibly imagine.
