Sir Richard for CDS!

#1
Moved by me from the Brown v Dannatt thread.

There is nothing in QR's as far as I am aware, that says you can't support the Gaffer in getting a promotion.

Sir Richard has demonstrated time and again his devotion and support for the Armed Forces, not just the Army.

As per PVR's petition, I move that we support the Boss's appointment to be the next CDS.

This is NOT political. We simply want to support a man that we know has our best interests at heart.

As in fact Arrsers did the last time the Big Man exercised duty of care and ended up in bother over it..

He has spoken out for his people over and over again, and has taken risks to ensure his duty of care is above reproach.

We need Sir Richard in this post.

Once again, I do not know of any regulation in QR's that expressly forbids supporting your Commander upwards.

Please sign it.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to support the appointment of General Sir Richard Dannatt as the next Chief of the Defence Staff.

Air Chief Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup is due to stand down as Chief of the Defence Staff early next year. His ideal successor would be General Sir Richard Dannatt, who is enormously respected amongst serving and retired Armed Forces personnel for his strong moral stance and his advocacy of welfare issues in particular. It is right and proper at this current time, with the Army bearing the brunt of operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, that the professional head of the Armed Forces is a soldier, and the appointment of General Sir Richard Dannatt in particular would be a significant boost to morale. If the Prime Minister were to support this appointment, it would also scotch recent rumours that he has in fact blocked General Dannatt's appointment to the post of CDS.
The facility exists to sign it as Armed Forces without a postcode..

Bumpito.

Please sign.

And.......... once again if I can get this signed off as an Arrse campaign, I will. However, I'd need the usual Military law specialists etc to point out if QR's or an existing DIN expressly forbids troops openly supporting their CGS being promoted?

Then we can worry about bumpers stickers and catchy slogans :D

I did have one, but it would only have led to riverdancing hat on no coffee one way interviews , as I'm not sure if people in power have a sense of humour :(

Nice one!

I'm away for a few days. In the meantime, supporters can take some comfort from the fact that the PM petition website has a box for Armed Forces personnel without a postcode, thus indicating its appropriateness as a means of democratic participation!

If in doubt, use a nom de blog.

Two points:

A) People in power rarely have a sense of humour - they take themselves far too seriously.

B) Definition of 'openly'? (Particularly in relationship to an on-line petition)

Done my bit and signed. If he gets the job do you think he would be willing to give me a reference for my forthcoming AOSB?
