Sir Malcolm Arnold - RIP

Sir Malcolm Arnold, the composer who won an Oscar with his score for the film, Bridge on the River Kwai has died.

His output included symphonies, concertos, ballet music and more than 130 film scores.

He won a scholarship to the Royal College of Music when he was aged 17. He went on to became principal trumpeter with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and turned to composing after a brief spell in the army.
