Simon Weston charity goes broke

Very sad news.

Simon Weston

The youth charity which was set up 20 years ago by the Falklands War veteran Simon Weston has gone out of business because of financial difficulties.

Weston Spirit, which is based in Liverpool and has six centres across the UK, blamed the decision on mounting debts.

The charity, set up by the former Welsh Guardsman, offered development help for disengaged young people.

Mr Weston said it was "with great regret" the charity had ceased trading.

"A combination of factors have made fundraising very difficult in recent years and mounting debt sadly forced what was a very very difficult decision for the trustees and the executive," his statement on the charity's website added.

probably shed loads of red tape made it difficult to raise funds, I would love the chance to take one of the frigates/destroyers or even invincible, and give a few 100 youngsters the chance to learn seaman ship, electronic, mechanics, navigation, cooking, working as a team ( I could go on) but think of the red tape and insurance involved,

also the cost, bet if you sold it in the right way you could get the money...... Look at projects around the country that people have done, but had to work really hard at raising the money to do so, and must have felt like they were banging their heads against a brick wall... Two that spring to mind, The Vulcan Project, and the Eden project in Cornwall.
