Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. can anyone tell me the name and location of a Junior Signals (possibly JNR Leader) depot that was situated somewhere in the north east ? I have vague memories of going there for a boxing tournament in 1982. Had to get a train to Newcastle and ended up at a barracks full of junior signallers . It was very dark and foggy if that helps ...
Is it still in use ? Are there any sigs guys here who fought in the junior army inter company championships in 82 ?
    Cheers in advance

  2. That was the JSW in Albermale Bks, near Ouston.

It is still in use and is the home of an Artillery Regiment now.

  3. thanks

  4. Dark and foggy , yep that was Albemarle

  5. I seem to remember running along a disused runway . is this the same place or am I getting confused with another dark foggy place with a runway ?

  6. Albemarle Brks is on the old Raf Ousten site , there is a large airfield with runways, peri track the lot
I spent 4 years on it in the middle with my radar
