Shut up, Alexa!

Were you there when a one pip wonder called N*** D****** decided he was the dogs, and proceeded to lord it over the OR's in 2 Sqn, I unfortunately had several run ins with this specimen, resulting in him getting a mouthful of canoe paddle in Norway. back in BFPO 32 I was taping the boards, but he got removed from the corps, I heard he went RAPC, logical really, he was a very good mathematician, uni graduate. I walked away intact.
I was never in 1 Armd Div Sigs. After my days as a speed bump (during which, for a time, I was 98 Alpha), I did a 7 year resettlement course in the RAPC, including a posting that saw my signals genius put to good use at MRG HQ on the Div Log Net.

Edit. Working TO 1 Armd Div Sigs

Today, I've ordered a couple of Google Home Mini in the Black Friday sale, £34 each.

Then SWMBO saw a chromecast audio in a shop for £18, and came home with it, so it will plug straight into the sound system.

My mother fell at home a couple of days ago, pulling the radiator off the wall and taking 3 hours to get up. I reckon a well placed mini will be within shouting range of all rooms in her bungalow, allowing her to call for help via a Bluetooth connected mobile phone. There was no way she would have a telecall system, but I've sold this one to her on the basis of listening to radio 4 :)

This thread highlights two things.

1. Alexa is helpful gadget if you want to be able to stream music and carry out simple tasks (timer, shopping list, calendar management) using the power of the internet.

2. This site seems to be attracting a disproportionate amount of geriatric simpletons who shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the internet. A history of working as an electrician appears to be a common theme.

Or perhaps a geriatric that help set up and frame the Internet, perhaps?

Fcek me, if Alexa or Siri or any of the other voluntary “Big sister is listening, Winston” devices been around back then there would have been some interesting RFCs put up for a vote.

Sheesh 24/7/365.25 voluntary private sector surveillance and you pay for it? Bwahaahaaah! Even Dick couldn’t have come up with that one though Pohl came close.

I don't know what any of that meant - perhaps Duke is right :(

We haven't had a visit from our very super spy electrician DaManBugs who has a long history of electrical tampering including wiring up barracks surveillance systems.

Perhaps he has graduated to Alexa.

Chin up. It’ll all end in tears but not for us geriatrics. Seriously, it’s going to bite then big style when they’re older. ;)
They'll be asking their grandkids how to get the 3D Hologram to turn and face them and the kids will be " again??, just flick your left wrist. No the other way".

If they're watching 3d holographic porn, the whole wrist flicking thing might be a bit of a problem.

Won't be a problem in my cave, if I can just get the twigs to light.

Hmmm, been aware of these things for a while, obviously. No way in hell would I have one.

Ok so ... There is a third party device in your home that listens to everything you say. Can anyone else see a potential problem there?
