The heart of the site is the forum area, including:
Has anyone got any information in regards to short Herrick tours (ie 3 months) for TA personnel?
Yes... they are going to be between 2 and 4 months long. possibly 3.
This cant be gen.. how does a 2 month tour help a regular unit?? I was under the understanding that bsn hospital people did like 3 months but everyone else did 6.
Would you you care to elaborate? How long would the pre-deployment cycle last?
Get shot at the 3 month point, you will also get a purple valour distinguished merit ninja medal.
If you are a Medic, it is possible. If you are in virtually any other role whatsoever, it is not. And the Medic roles - 3 monthers in the R3 in Bastion - also take a LOT of beat-up training first, and of course are utterly dependent on you knowing the job professionally beforehand. That's simply not possible for teeth arms (unless you are an artilleryman for Dr Evil's private army, or somesuch).
So no chance for a sapper then?
Maybe but the hospitality people do tours of indeterminate lengths. Most of us are still waiting for the nurses from Rinteln to turn up.
Get a commission and join a specialist unit. Then one week is possible
I've heard of these short tours, but not sure how they will work. They seem to rely on a high standard of 'readiness' for hte TA soldier that I don't think the TA can provide.
What, like caterers and waiters kind of thing?
The only teeth arm that does less than 6 months as a standard tour is the Army Air Corps AH Sqns.
Who do 4 months.
Stood by for incoming on the obvious.
Media Group have been known to do 1 month
And the TRB when they deploy when needed.
Wrong (you need to take those AHcentric glasses off)
