Sharing a webcam on a network

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. I have a peer to peer network running with a wireless router. On one machine (Win 2000) I have a video capture device akin to a webcam. I would like to view or capture the output from this on another machine (Win XP) across the network. Both machines have the same video capture software.

Any ideas? I thought I would just select the device in control panel and right click to be offered "share" but this doesn't happen.

  2. You could use netmeeting if you have it on both PCs.

If not then http://www.webcamxp.com/ has a pretty good programme

It can probably be done with some freeware/shareware programme but I honestly can't be arrsed to go searching. :)

  3. Yes, I thought I'd be able to share it like I share a printer.

  4. Nope due to some hideously complicated reason that only geeks and nerds care about you need a program to be able to do it.

Of course if there are any geekynerds or even nerdygeeks out there with another solution then feel free to post :p
