Sex, Bombs & Burgers

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. War, love and lunch: it's human nature says Dan Jones in his review of Peter Nowak's Sex, Bombs and Burgers or How War, Porn and Fast Food Created Technology as We Know It.

In THE TIMES this Saturday Jones suggested that the prime movers of mankind's success story here on planet earth might be food, fighting and (politely) fornication: the three ‘F’s’ in fact.

This all fits in quite well with my personal theory, three F squared, where each consecutive aspect is prefixed with the adjective ‘fast’.

It is both sequential and cyclic, and perhaps best explained after a few drinks and a decent meal, possibly before the fighting starts…

But is this the new way of warfighting or the American way, or has it always been thus? The thought of base burger bars in a combat zone or 'dry' wars with no alcohol allowed (try getting the French to wear this one) certainly brings with it a level of unreality that many old practitioners of the military art might find disturbing.
  2. So fast food/fighting & ******* theory is not going to take off in the forum; pity but the academic tone probably didn't help. How about sticking with the French for a moment, you know those guys of whom General Norman Schwartzkopf said 'Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without your accordion' (according to one ARRSEr). I suspect neither of being particularly musically inclined so this might be considered something of a slur.

But a couple of things about the French military. They tend not to put their own nationals at too much risk (ergo the Legion Etranger); they supply alcohol to their troops in-theatre, regardless of any local Islamic bye-laws; and they still run the Bordel Militaire de Campagne or BMC system. For those unfamiliar with this practice the BMC is an officially sanctioned and run troop brothel.

Surely there must be something that the British can find useful in French military practice, should we start with these?
  3. Does it have to be in that order, I'm a little peckish but really can't be arrsed to get up and go to the scoff house...
  4. Aye,but they are still French.
  5. The whore house at Calvi ..every good barracks should have one
  6. No Mr Fluffy, the order is not caste in stone, but protein input must be factored in somewhere during the cycle...otherwise operations will cease.
  7. Calvi had a bar with three transsexuals, surely that is not the one to which you refer?
