Service Records Withheld - possible ops in Norway

Discussion in 'Military History and Militaria' started by Deskflyer, Jan 10, 2011.

Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. My g/fs parents tried to get hold of the WW2 service records of one of their relatives but were told that they wouldn't be released until 2013.

We know he was originally in RAF air-sea rescue (got his number from then) and then transferred to the army. Apparently he was extremely vague about his service but did once mention Norway.

Is it common to have to wait 70 years for WW2 service records to be released?

In any case, what kind of actions would he possibly have been in to warrant this delay - commando or SOE?

    thanks,

  4. Was the subject born in 1913? Might be the 100 years rule.

  5. The daughter hs every right to request service record. This is a common problem with service records and the other end!
