Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Just noticed on our bounty board got a new matt labelled sere .I take it
thats the dull video on what to do when things go horrible wrong .And not
    anything more serious ?
  2. Depends on how you define serious. It's the new MATT 8 "Survive, Evade, Resist, Extract". Now, where did I put those taped up goggles?

It's not a requirement for the TA.

  4. I bet all the fat cunts will be turning up for it for a jolly though, as units will run it, as its "cool".
  5. Worth watching if you want to know what one of 'Them', who has a liking for writing books, looks like.
  6. Level 1 requirement only - & it's pants!!
  7. I believe that Units will have to be very careful about running anything more than the most basic level of this - there are very few organisations (I can think of only one, but then I have never seen the boathouse) authorised to carry out the more ahem interesting end of the training...

TA units should not be running any level of it.

  9. Why?

E & E was tought and put into practice for years in Recce Platoons/Sniper Det and ...not to "Them" standards but not to a bad level

so why stop it now :?
  10. Well apart from if things go wrong in afganistian kiplings suggestions probably still hold true so the resistance to interogation training really wont help when locals are testing sharpness of blades with your neck.
Unless you have people who know what they are doing likely to cause casualties .I dont know about your unit but I know several guys in my unit I wouldn't want to be platicuffed and sandbagged in their hands .
  11. I some lads i think would pay for that kind of abuse...but then if it floats your boat :)

if you run an E & E exercise it needs to be very strict cowboys...
we ran one last year you never know where your next war/police action will be...
  12.
Only 1 Unit allowed to run practical training in the UK and it is not "Them". Do not run your own Recce/Walt Resistance Training courses as if it goes wrong you do not want to be anywhere close to crap that will come down from on highh.
  13. Sorry, wasn't saying that it was THEM who conducted the training just that I only knew of one unit that did (which I had dealings with in another life), but because I have never been near anything Special there could be other trainers out there which I was unaware of.

D_o_K is entirely right. Beyond the simple evasion-type exercise (you know the kind of thing, orienteering round stands without being spotted) do not be tempted to conduct any of this training without the experts on hand. It can lead to a whole world of hurt for the exercising troops & those running the exercise...

If you need to do the specialist stuff the specialists will sort it out.
