Selection of High Sheriff(s)

Does anyone kno how this process works? I note from this link that the proposed lord lieutenant for Oxfordshire for 2008-9 has a connection to the corps but a routine search via a (non-google) search engine proved interesting..
Are you getting confused between Lord Lieutenants and High Sheriffs?

Lord Lieutenants are the Queen's personal representatives in their local area, and are appointed for life (or until retirement).

High Sheriffs are her judicial representatives, and are appointed for a year at a time.

Both have largely ceremonial, but constitutionally important roles.

A couple of links for starters
