Welcome to the Army Rumour Service, ARRSE

The UK's largest and busiest UNofficial military website.

The heart of the site is the forum area, including:

  1. Does anyone know how this process works? I note from this link that the proposed high sheriff for Oxfordshire for 2008-9 has a connection to the corps but a routine search (of the proposed incumbent via a non-google search engine) suggests not everyone would agree..

  2. Are you getting confused between Lord Lieutenants and High Sheriffs?

Lord Lieutenants are the Queen's personal representatives in their local area, and are appointed for life (or until retirement).

High Sheriffs are her judicial representatives, and are appointed for a year at a time.

Both have largely ceremonial, but constitutionally important roles.
