Secrets of a Police Marksman - Ch4 Thursday 18th August 22.00

If I recall correctly, that very nearly happened when the two coppers who shot Harry Stanley were arrested and interviewed under caution.

True, after they were arrested the whole of the specialist Firearms wing (SFO’s placed their authorisation cards on the boss’s desk saying that after the CPS’s decision we wanted to talk over the consequences of it with our families and the federation until then can they hold onto our cards, without which we couldn’t carry, so the Met was left with little if not no response to armed crime) within the hour the then commissioner Sir John Stevens (King George) turned up at the base and as he walked into the crew room where over a 100 of us were seated he shouted “Come on tell me what you want, we need you out there....”
For the next hour we aired our grievances to the top man who stated he would do all that he could to support firearms officers.
Then a few years later Tony was also charged........ not much has changed...

What would be your ideal solution to this ?

What would be your ideal solution to this ?

Just a fair level playing field, the same rights that a suspect is allowed. I've been kept at a nick after a shooting for hours after a long and traumatic day, it took me standing up and going to walk out with a Supt. DPS shouting at me to sit down as he hadn’t finished yet. I replied “Am I under arrest?” he said “No”then I said “I’m going home for a sleep and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.” There is no perfect solution, each case is different. PIP is a lot better than it used to be, an honestly held belief used to be enough, not any more.
Saying that I would still rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6.

I get the feeling I'm not telling you anything you don't know but when stories such as this still generate outrage and concern you're on a hiding to nothing...

Shoppers gobsmacked after armed cops eat breakfast in Tesco cafe

If you can't even eat food without it being newsworthy you're certainly not going to get a fair hearing if you shoot someone.

This is a quote from the article, it just shows how stupid people are and how this particular Scottish numpty of an MSP jumped on to the bandwagon..
"It can cause undue alarm and it's not good for public confidence. They should be able to lock them securely in a car boot while going for breakfast.
"It's not as if there is likely to be danger in the minute it takes to get to the café. It's almost as if they are doing it with a certain arrogance."
Douglas Ross, Highland and Islands Conservative MSP, said it was a “worrying incident”.

You can just see the article the next day.

"Bungling* Armed blobby bobbies unable to stop armed robbery at tesco cafe because they had left their guns in the car whilst having breakfast... AND YOU'RE PAYING FOR IT!"

Edit. No Article about the filth is complete without the word bungling.

Totally forgot about the programme and just watched it online, and an excellent programme it was too and a big well done to Tony Long on his career. The coloured gentleman needs to get a life.

I've posted before on the difference between French and UK 'after action' protocols but worth repeating here.

UK; cops made to feel guilty, worry, suspended, grilled etc.

France; pat on the back from the President.
