A sad day indeed. Hundreds of years of tradition, sidestepped, but not forgotten.

My grandfather was in the Black Watch, before getting a QM commission in the Indian Army and I briefly served with 204 Bty (The Tyneside Scottish), so at 1100 hours today I put on my Highland military music CD and had a "moment". By the way for the cognoscenti, I skipped the bloody awful Highland Cathedral track.

I was absoutely gob-smacked to hear of the cock-up on the kilt front but then if they stiff you on the cap-badge/RHD front, then it shows intent on every other aspect of esprit de corps and regimental identity.

So farewell then Black was lovely to know you. At least they had the good grace to wait until after the last Jock of WW1 vintage and HM the Queen Mother had died - we fired her birthday salute at York you know...
