Sumthin that always pissed me awf…any nob can go buy any amount of fireworks(explosives to me). I have a firearm licence and do my own reloads and when I buy powder I have to produce a firearm ticket to get it…yet off ye **** to Tesco n places like it and you can jus get it… it could be used unlawfully…anyone agree?

As in all things addressed by any level of government to solve a "problem", instead of addressing the "problem" (the irresponsible few) it seeks to punish everyone. Since catching the smaller fish is too hard, lets catch all the fish in one net and that sorts it.

However, I agree that the seemingly uncontrolled sale of explosives (as you rightly identify fireworks to be) seems to be out of step with highly regulated and controlled sale of powder for ammunition simply because of intended purpose, when the component parts are relatively identical. Unfortunately, the path of travel on that one was only ever going to be one way and it was never going to be for relaxation.

Remember, the purpose of the Wee Hoosie is to keep churning out laws in a vain effort to look relevant and meaningful.

IIRC growing up in an Empire Colony, Central Africa, to be circumspect there were no other residents who were more Scottish than the Scots ---- Caledonian Clubs abounded, as did pipe bands but no-one slagged the English as it's done now in actual Scotland

I've noticed that, as we progress towards becoming "new Australians" we've been trying to make contacts, get advice etc. from online. There's a Scots in Adelaide group on Faceache. All they ever post about is how amazing Scotland is, pictures of Scotland, when the local ceilidh night is, where can you get slice sausage, best kilt fitters in Queensland?

Why the f**k did you move to another country if all you're going to go on about is Scotland???

I glanced through the Act and you cannot set them off except on certain days, oh and the police can actually detain and search you if they think you have a Catherine Wheel on your person etc.

Edit - It seems you need a licence for anything other than F1 (indoor fireworks). FFS

Personally I think it doesn't go far enough, I would have preferred a complete ban on public sales. I know quite a few that agree with me.

The smaller the country, the less insured it is to single point failures.. An Independent Scotland run along SNP lines and with its grandiose ideas, would likely bankrupt itself in a decade, without London to backstop them.

The working assumption seems to be the little countries in the 70, 80s and particularly the 90s got container loads of EU money and I just don't think the SNP fully grasp how the good times in Europe are coming to an end. Increasingly Brussels will be looking for member states to chip up money and not live off handouts (see: Greece, Spain or Ireland).

to be fair - many ex-pats have fond memories of Scotland BS (Before Sturgeon) - those halsian days where the population was only split by relatively low level religion/football divides and not by frothing at the mouth hate filled lunatics demanding their 'freedom'.

Many ex-pats were extremely well educated and brought up in a country whose institutions actually worked and our cities were not boarded up hellholes whereas now, many of us find that we have to apologise for the SNPs bigotry and the shame of our country being the bottom of the league table on virtually every measure

I'm inclined to agree tbh. Regardless of the party passing it it's legislation I agree with. Too many mutants have access to fireworks & I'd limit it to organised events.

If we do end up leaving the UK and im dreading that happening it wouldnt surprise me if she went all South Africa in the 80s and not let people selling up to leave taking their money out of the country, or hit with massive taxes in order to do so.

They'll need to slam an iron curtain down. The Greens/SNP have made it clear that they're coming after folk who have bothered their arses making a career for themselves or building their own money. You know, they people with transferable skills who can and will Foxtrot Oscar rather than see themselves taxed within an inch of their lives so that they're no better off than some work shy waster.

The only people who will be allowed to live a life of anything approaching a good standard will be the nationalist political class.

I may be wrong but never felt that much change in the rural areas, or the smaller towns where I still have family in one locale and the banter is still friendly rivalry, rather than hostility.. The big cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow are like any other big city, but its here you notice the lowest classes of people at their worst and in your face and Sturgeon's Scotland has certainly agitated enough of them. One assumes Police Scotland don't have a non hate crime incident report for hostility to the English.

Here's the SG figures for household wealth in Scotland, using their own definition of wealth to include all cash reserves, physical assets and pension. According to that just under 20% of Scottish households are millionaires.....

whilst I don't reach the million barrier I've just scared my self by working out how much money I am worth to my dependents should I mysteriously suddenly die! - when you take into account house, savings, car, other expensive belongings, pension and 'death in service' - I'm doomed!
