Douglas Ross less than inspiring on Radio Scotland this morning, on phone in. Only caught the first half an hour but he singularly failed to definitively answer a single question in that time.

What defines a woman in terms of women's rights.
Does he agree self determination in trans
Who's in charge SC&U, Boris, him or Ruth.
If it's him, why so many pictures of Ruth.
Should a SC&U voter supporter vote SLab candidate to keep SNP out.
Have Scottish fishermen "been thrown under a bus"
Where will he find the 3000 teachers he says he will provide.

Why are SC&U spending so much time and effort saying Don't vote SNP rather than giving reasons to vote for themselves.

Wife put the radio on for that. Maybe it's just his voice, but he doesn't come over as very assertive or confident unless he's spouting the message. Answering questions is a lot less easy for him and I noted at one point when responding to the lady about 'women's rights' (I didn't hear the name of the thing she was asking about) he said he'd have to speak to Kemi Badenoch about it. Really? He wasn't even convincing in his response to the fisherman, one of the things he'd expect to be asked about.

You're spot-on with your last sentence and this achieved a similarly loose response, but where are the senior, experienced opposition leaders in Scotland? (Answering this myself, they go to Westminster where the big boys hang out.)

It would be interesting to see if local authorities/regions would 'refuse' to join an Indy Scotland - a lot of people/commentators outside Scotland have zero clue about how divided we now are between Indy/no Indy and SNP/everyone else

- I genuinely hate everything the SNP stands for and Indy and I really dont know what I would do if the idiots managed to force Independence. I'm pretty sure I will sell up and leave Scotland but I also have elderly parents to consider but without them I would absolutely leave as there is nothing else that would hold me in a country that would be completely riven with hatred and on track to third world status in very short order.

- never in my lifetime and in history has a socialist run state been a success because the people in charge s only skillset is ideology and the purveyance of division and hatred - divide and conquer . When it comes to economy and the management of actual 'things' eg schools, nhs, police etc they literally have no clue apart from more ideology, now sadly mixed with wokeism and even more racist and class division as deliberate policy
I am with you I will take the hit on my house and will leave.

Ross is a Westminster politician.

Can any well informed Arrser let me know where all the money went with the cost savings supposed to be made by creating the Unified Police Force of Scotland? It seems more like they wanted 'One Ring to rule All', so to speak, to misquote Tolkien. Makes keeping the peasantry non-SNP voting populace in line easier as well?

What savings?

What savings?

Thanks @Fang_Farrier - that's what I mean. Another abject failure that has never really been high-lighted about the present administration, and is unfortunately still ongoing.....

For those who dislike Alba, here's what the proIndy view of it is.

Leaving aside whether it was done well I am in favour of it in principle. I would have made it more like a military chain of command with local commanders being somewhere between a CO and a Chief Constable.

Ross is no different from any of the other useless politicians infesting Holyrood , ALL of them, in every party, are very poor specimens of a disgusting breed and its just a case of which turd will cause less damage when they get their grubby hands on the levers of power.

In recent years, only Sturgeon and Davidson have stood out from the pack - Sturgeon as the brutal dictator of her own party, ensuring that she keeps anyone in the SNP with any smidgen of capability well away from any job/role that would make them shine over her. And wee Ruthy, genuinely talented but went hopelessly woke and threw it all away by differentiating the Scottish Tories from Westminster and making them fade into the amorphous grey blob of all the other Scottish opposition parties who supported Remain and desperately tried to appeal to those who only recognise as Scottish over being British/Scottish - this has left a large voter constituency who are proud Brit/Scots with no natural political party 'home' in Scotland and no real incentive to vote knowing that Con/Lab/Lib are slightly different shades of the same shit.

the opposition either needs to agree to work together to defeat the SNP or make themselves so unique that they will attract strong support from the unrepresented.

I was with Strathclyde when the change occurred. I agree that it was a good idea in principle but the execution was with indecent haste and not thoroughly planned. Some of the unforeseen outcomes were embarrassing to say the least. I'm glad I'm well out of it.

If the polls are to be replicated on the day of the race in May then god help us!

We really will be "too stupid" and will not be able to argue against someone from down South taking the Michael. Re-electing total incompetence for what will be a twenty year stretch must surely mark us down as beyond parody.

One of the cultists who is a friend of a friend on Facebook said something along the lines of ‘continuing to do the same thing even though it fails is the definition of madness’ with reference to the union. She then had an Internet tantrum when I suggested that continuing to support the SNP and the EU could be put in the same bracket.
