Scottish Politics Thread

The SNP have probably not even considered setting those up.

Also, their armed forces.
So worth repeating on this thread, that pre-referendum a friend & his colleagues at HQ Land were tasked with valuing SCOTS DG because Scotland in the event of gaining independence would have to pay for them.
Nooo, nobody can force Scottish domiciled soldiers to transfer to the Scottish militia, (why would you?) but the 9+% of their worth could be transferred to the iScotland pot.

As I remember UN rules state that that you can only sell/tranfer arms and ammunition to un approved states, .......I can't remember seeing Scotland on that list . ......

The EU will require Scotland to have a hard physical border. I suspect the English will require one too. Scotland will become a backdoor to illegal immigration into England. It could end up being like the US Mexican border. That may also backfire on Scots who may find their access to England restricted.

No doubt, the EU would require Scotland to have a hard border on gaining membership of the EU, along with adopting the Euro, being part of the EU army etc...

It would be up to Westminster if they wanted one with Scotland, I guess it would depend if there was any leverage in annoying the EU by not having one

But seeing as we've left the EU so don't have to follow all their diktats now, unlike the vassal state an 'independent' Scotland desires to be it could get interesting

Excellent. May I copy/paste into my social media threads?

Having said that, some of my friends whose lifestyles are the result of their own hard work seem oblivious to the threat to their lifestyles from SNP/Independence and worship at the altar of Nonsticola and the SNP.

State pensions will be means tested, inheritance (all of it) will go to State (Party) coffers. Got money in the bank? We're having that.

Yes, I've seen a bit of that, and it puzzles me. Is it middle class expectation that the effect on themselves will be minimal aka London champagne socialists or what?

There is one advantage to that approach. People would get a fair idea of what they are voting for in a referendum.

The reality rather than the fantasy might cause more people to vote with sensible head.

As an earlier poster mentioned leaving the EU was relatively easy despite the attempts at sabotage and the wailing of project fear. Leaving the union will not be easy at all even if the London government are willing to play nice.
I think you're being far too optimistic there. For the hardcore nats, it's indy at any price. They simply do not care about facts or logic. They have become so dogmatic that their thirst for independence and hatred of the English would override any common sense.

Said it before, the SNP hate the middle class, the dirty tory voters. They'll be wrung for every penny possible.

Not for long, if it came to pass, all that would be left would be the useless, everyone else affected would hoof it over the border.

Still I suppose with all the oil there, they could do a colder version of Mad Max.

Last night there was a Party Political Broadcast by the SNP and I thought I’d better watch it to educate myself hoping for more details of their policies.

Well ........ there was a wee lassie who told me that Westminster was bad and the only solution was independence

(The scariest thing was the big TV behind her with the projected image of BIG MAMMY watching us all, 1984/2021 ?)

Were there any policies for the economy, education, the SHS, any spending plans ......NO

The cult apparently has only one policy FREEDUMB.

ETA @Sixty found that money yet?

Like I said. They don't care about details like finances. It's indy or nothing, damn the consequences. Sturgeon must be bricking it if she has to go through with this.

Sturgeon's only hope is that the EU will bail out i.e. annex an independent Scotland. Given how the EU is imploding over COVID-19, that's not a bet she should make if she had any sense whatsoever (which she doesn't).

They're mental. They don't care.

It's amusing watching it all from a distance, but I won't be laughing if Scotland gets independence and then Welsh cybernats start getting listened to

I'm onto a good thing, lots of freebies that other people in England are paying for, and along come idiots trying to ruin it for us

Well every day is a school day, researching through the SNP's site I discovered that they had a Scottish Veterans Commissioner in post since 2018. Col Charlie Wallace, well he seems to have kept that very covert, has anyone had any dealings with his organisation?

Is that so all British military veterans can be rounded up and forced into the gulags come Kim-jong Krankie's coronation as God Emperor of Haggis Land?

Not as such but I know that NHS Scotland has various dealings around Veterans, I posted a link to a survey on employment in the NHS by Ex Forces.

Had another email today looking for ex Forces to tell their stories of employment in the NHS.
