Scottish Politics Thread

2 problems as I see it 1) Where is the credible opposition because I'm not seeing or hearing anything since Wee Ruthie left. 2) Who would take over from Scotland's mammy?

We have already discussed and explained that. The apoplectic indignation of the separatists when the BBC even suggested taking the Daily Party Political Propaganda Broadcast Briefing off the telly was a good indication of what it really was, since there was no real need for a daily appearance on a subject that had moved from an emerging national crisis phase into general maintenance and management. The YesNP are extremely adept at their PR (admiration is duly given) and the way they can spin and distort back to the "answer is independence" in every single situation is phenomenal.

What is astonishing is that the local media allow them do this almost unquestioningly, but this is aided and abetted by a poor cohort of opposition figures who find it difficult to counter the strategy in any effective way. And so the lip-service the Party pays to democracy is only for show - like all Nationalist parties the world over (especially those rooted in socialist ideals) they don't believe in it for others, just themselves. So they play at voting and discourse but you must ensure you vote the right way and that the discourse is not to challenge the fundamental concepts in any way. Do so and you will be punished - if not destroyed.

Mrs Murrell has in the main simply copied what was happening in the other areas, although she has led some actions from the front as well, but when she does the following she is very adept at making enough changes to make it appear solely Jockanese, which tricks the unthinking into believing it was all her own work. Very cunning, and as we can see, very effective.
One of the main reasons the non SNP Parties are do bad at retaliating is St Nic (pbuh) has almost completely cut them off from the media. This had been done brilliantly and Goebbels would be proud of her. The other Parties get a wee shove in on the late night shows that are not watched that much or the Sunday politics when most sensible people will be having their pre-prandial snooze.

And that was one of my main concerns when they started demanding control of the media.

They’ve started the poison off in ten schools and tried to limit the external scrutiny.

Out of interest. As somebody who wanted to vote yes last time. You seem to have either changed your mind, or accepted the result.

Would you vote yes again? Or are you getting sick and tired of it all now?

For me, the SNP is on its last legs as EU membership allowed these rupees of parties to thrive . Once we’re back to big boy politics things change a bit.

I would be very interested in any study that looks into that, to see if perception matches reality. Since I don't tend to watch many of these things for medical and financial reasons (burst blood vessels, broken TV screens) I haven't noticed that but it does make me think of the way Aberdeen fans have this belief that unless they are playing either of the Ugly Sisters, you can usually guarantee that their game is the last one shown on Scotsport! I am even tempted to do my own research on that, just to see (the Aberdeen FC thing, not das Partei).

I would be very disturbed if the lack of representation was due not because of lack of effort on the part of the opposition trying to get involved and more towards the biased scheduling of the broadcaster working it so they are reflecting the incumbent in a more favourable light. You would hope that with an election looming, the others were getting more of a look-in almost by default. But if they have nothing valuable to say then why bother?

Since we are indeed heading towards an election and as we already observed, the YesNP are adept at deliberate obfuscation to distort and mis-represent aspects to suit their one-and-only policy objective (by causing doubt, outrage and incandescent apoplexy in the populace), Scotland in Union has a useful feature where you can take a comment from one of the Cult and fact-check it to see what the reality is.

Have a look at the one from Forbes on the recent COVID-19 announcement from UK Govt as an example, seeming to state Scotland will "get" only £21m of a £30bn pot. The comment from the Fraser of Allander Institute summarises is neatly - "As usual, politicians are ‘technically’ correct in the lines that they have used. But the failure to provide clarity and the overall picture leads to confusion".

THIS is why their PR is so effective. Drip, drip, drip . . . .

Most of it will be perception. Plus effective use of social media as they realise that people don’t consume media now. Just sound bites.

The SNP has also been rather effective at silencing critics. We’ve had personal details of critics leaked. Coordinated efforts of using what used to be an independent civil service (but we saw that in Brexit)

The SNPs activities haven’t been under the national spotlight. A little bit like Andy Burnham isn’t under the spotlight in Manchester. Small target audiences.

Sturgeons main media role has been as anti Brexit politician by a pro remain media. The media still seems so upset about Brexit that they’re not even going to do any journalism investigating why it only seems to be Scottish fish that’s a main problem.

Must be a whitewash and papering over the cracks in the goberment

Did you notice it says she has not been staying at Bute House.

I hand it to you, our expert in such matters, to suggest alternative accommodation. :)

I hate to point it out but Wee Ruth is currently the leader of the opposition in Holyrood.
Will be until the election in May.

Is she hibernating?
