It's the same commercialised boll0cks being punted everywhere.

The days of family gatherings, listening to Andy Stewart, shortbread, first footing and lump of coal are long gone, except in the fevered imagination of the terminally nostalgic.
There are outposts.

The thing I enjoy most about Hogmanay is the quiet roads. All the punters who have come from down South are ensconced in their lets/holiday homes and not liable to go anywhere for a couple of days except for walks and there are no commercials.

Hogmanay is generally quiet for us apart from fireworks after the bells. Ne'er Day is bigger as it's up to friends, drams, walk to another farm, drams and nibbles, then up to the pub for pipes and singing till, well, whenever and everyone in the place is local. Sadly this year will be different.

I thought that there would be criticism of this announcement

Scotland is first country in the world to make female sanitary products free.

Proposed by SLab and unanimously passed in Holyrood by all political parties.

Dentistry still badly affected by Covid, despite the fact that the Chief Dental Officer stated that more normal dentistry should start 1st November, 2 of my clinics are still closed.
(My staff and myself redeployed elsewhere in the meantime)
Been told by management that be lucky to be cleared for opening before next year.

My only criticism would be of the wording.

“Scotland is first country in the world to make female sanitary products taxpayer provided and funded“ would be far more accurate.

The word “free” is thrown around far too easily in my opinion.

Waiting for the complaints that the range of free products is insufficient.

What next? Tax payer funded bog roll? After all everyone has to wipe their backside...

Or even free Toothpaste? Actually that would make more sense, better dental hygiene, less demand on the NHS.

The idea of free hygiene kit is great, the reality is that someone somewhere has to pay for it.

That's me feked then been up here 40 years and still got it
Ditto, Been here 20 years and sound like Guy Martin' older Brother.

Interesting article in the Herald this morning

the Bifab saga goes on , but now it is apparently the UK government AND the Scottish government that are to blame
How very strange , when things look rosy , look at us, didn't we do well, then when it goes to rat shit, as it frequently does with this shower of incompetents , there's always someone else to share the blame. (even if it is just a headline in the paper)

More stuff chucked out to everyone, at a cost to all tax payers, when in reality it is not problem to most folk, like baby boxes for example.

I'm happy to criticise it. Should have removed VAT on them as they're a necessity, not give them out for bloody free (SWIDT). Sorry, not free, paid for by my taxes, once again!

The baby box thing is absurd. When #1 child was due we were offered a baby box which we both politely declined as being in a position where buying all our stuff wasn't a problem we didn't require it. The midwives kept pressuring us to accept one, eventually admitting that they had been told that they had to get as many people to take them as possible.

I have heard the same from friends when their grand kids came along. They all have refused to take one especially when friends and family give them stuff as gifts for the wee ones.

Yup, we had more stuff than we knew what to do with, f**k knows why they think I would want to put my kid in a cardboard box when we already had about three bassinets. The midwives were pretty incessant with pushing it.

I believe you don't get the option of declining now as it is mandatory.

How's that for skewing the figures to make it look like a success, eh?

Absurd. Most, if not all of it will either get hoofed or slung to charity, absolutely pointless. And yes, I agree that's so they can trumpet it as another roaring success story.

Plenty more money where that came from, Westmonster loves splashing cash to Wee Nicky.
