Scottish Politics Thread

Bit of a deviation:

Following catching up on this thread, the 'Universities in Scotland are skint' posts gained my interest. I always knew that Scottish students had no tuition fees, but I was not aware it was afforded to all EU member countries.

It would seem the not just the fees are free. Those same EU students are able to apply for the Student Loan System under the same terms of repaying the loan. RUK, meaning Rest of UK; Eng, NI and Wales must pay full fees of c£9850 per year.

I clear case of discrimination and division and I'm only surprised that no one has legally challenged this pile of bollocks!

Ah but, they are also taking thousands of Indians and Chinese to help pay for it, at the expense of local kids.

In fact all major political parties except Conservative support lowering the voting age to 16.
Responsible enough to vote, but not old enough to realise breaking CV19 legislation is wrong. Nice.

Old enough to have kids but not buy a bottle of wine.

There are lots of anomalies at the 16/17/18 year old stage.

As a tax payer, I'm fecking livid at 26 odd EU countries being able to get free fees.

Yup every European nation gets in for free apart from England (and possibly Wales), it's been challenged and found to be legally above board.

Anyone would thunk giving the vote to impressionable teenagers would be a cynical way to get their vote!

It excludes NI and Wales too. Do you have a link to the legal challenge?

That part of your statement is incorrect, all EU countries except the old enemy.
I noticed the inclusion of Turkey, which takes it to another stratosphere of pisstakery.

I can see that changing for the immediate future.

Phil Shiner agrees with you

However, he failed

aye - a couple of years ago the national socialists cut 100, 000 adult education places for some of scotlands poorest people to keep funding middle/upper class uni students and non english foreigners - nothing gets said about that disgrace either! apparently, noone in the sheisters/liars/incompetents/sex pets/lunatics/bigots currently in charge, sussed out that when the unis continue to put their tuition charges up year on year the 'free' bit we as tax payers pay to keep the middle/upper classes pays for less people every year - solution, rob peter to pay paul and cut the adult education budget - simples! wnakers the lot of them

Well I genuinely never realised this Carry on has been since 2010! Free tuition for Scots I never had issue with, the EU bit I most certainly do.
