And did the Professor apply for the job?

The current CMO has been in post since 2015.

It is an NHS Scotland appointment not a ScotGov one.

Previous CMOs have come from a range of medical specialities including surgeons and GPs.
Prof Pennington is 81 years old. If, and it seems unlikely, that he had applied for the job as CMO, and had got it, then if he was a cack-handed over his own personal hygiene as Chris Whitty, we would likely be looking for a new CMO about now anyway.

Sturgeon backs her to the full, so she resigns! This is not good for Sturgeon's position as FM and leader of the SNP.

The BBC announced CC has resigned, sad but it was the only thing she could do.
About bloody time. Her position was totally untenable. She is free to provide advice unpaid as a volunteer.

Got to say, the sign language bird is fantastic. I haven't laughed like that for ages, brilliant expressions.

My money’s on Jason Leitch as her replacement.

It’s about time we had a dentist...

The Chief Medical Officer has to be a Medic, ie a qualified Doctor.

Not sure if he's dual qualified

Good riddance. That's the problem with the SNP, unopposed for years so they think they're above reproach.

We should come under the yoke of Boris' Tories again because time and time again the SNP evidence they're a Mickey Mouse political party.

Look out for "Scotland" and "Police" - first is flapping the right elbow to mimic bagpipes, second is tapping an imaginary wristwatch, if you want to know the time ...

Chief Medical Officer is nothing to do with SNP, they are NHS.

What about a vet? After all, they study for longer than medical doctors, have knowledge of more than just the one species, and tend to have wider roles.
Scotland has a Chief Veterinary Officer.

It’s funny the notions that some people get. Unopposed? The SNP don’t even have a majority at Holyrood.
perhaps you meant EFFECTIVE opposition

Your position is our CMO is in a position absent political involvement ie SNP?
My position is that the appointment of a Chief Medical Officer is not a political appointment but an internal NHS one.

There is a political aspect to the role.

But if for example the government change, there is no change to the CMO.

Also applies to CDO, CNO, CVO, CPO (Chief Pharmaceutical Officer) and the Chief AHP Officer which covers most other health groups.

For instance, there is a job advert currently for Deputy/Assistant* CDO, open to any dentist in Scotland to apply for.

*can't remember which exactly
