Scary stuff; history of US nuclear SIOPs.

It makes a good case for the argument that strategy stopped when nuclear war broke out, and that the outbreak of nuclear war was a strategic failure whatever the result, as the aim of strategy in the Cold War was not to win wars, but to deter them.

What's even scarier that the SIOP is the fact that Curtis LeMay, one of the main figures behind it, was a virtual lunatic. Leave the military to its own devices and it draws up some wild plans. Who says civilian control of the military is a bad idea?
